Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West‘s “Power” music video director Marco Brambilla has opened up about the Def Jam conglomerate’s forthcoming album and its latest title.
According to Brambilla, the project is currently set to be called Dark Twisted Fantasy.
“That’s exactly what I like about his music. It’s the anti-Tiger Woods moment, you know? This [‘Power’ video] is really about that. The new album is very personal, too, and the various tracks on the album suggest things that have happened to him. This is the most epic track. It was a really great opportunity to show a moment of defiance and a moment of self-awareness. It’s that combination that he has as an artist that’s very peculiar…I’ve heard [Dark Twisted Fantasy] is the latest name. I would say not locked-in, and it would probably not get locked until closer to the time of the album release.” (New York Mag)
Last month, West tweeted that the album title would be changed from his original Good A** Job.
“The album is no longer called “Good A** Job” I’m bouncing a couple of titles around now,” Kanye West revealed via his new Twitter page on Wednesday (July 28). (Kanye West’s Twitter)
Young Money rapper Drake recently said West’s new LP will serve to motivate his own sophomore project.
“I’m very much looking forward to the Kanye West album because I need to be scared and inspired for my second joint,” Drake to radio personality Funkmaster Flex. “That [‘Power’] record just had to happen. Kanye’s a genius and I’m super excited for the rest of the album because I’ve heard some things that people haven’t heard.” (“Sucker Free”)
According to G.O.O.D. Music’s Consequence, West’s album is set to drop in mid-September.
“Well…the idea for doing the G.O.O.D Music Day emerged between me and [Universal Motown Records President] Sylvia Rhone, just to be quite honest,” Cons revealed in an interview. “I’m very communicative with Sylvia Rhone on everything that I do. We had actually met with Kanye one night, and as me and her left the meeting, we left together and I was like, ‘Yo, we need to really get this paper right now.’ When we left we thought that this is where we need to take advantage of the situation. So…she got on thephone…made some boss calls, and then we got to it. At the time when [Big] Sean announced that [he was also dropping his album on September 14th] I didn’t know that he was in the mix of that, but it’s all good. But initially, how that sh*t came about was me, Kanye and Kid Cudi. I just hadn’t announced it because I know we had things that had to be ironed out. And it got ironed out where it’s – ‘Cause actually at the end of the day, Kanye being the head of G.O.O.D Music had to approve that. And the approval was based on, ‘Let’s shake the game up.’ Cudi got the kids, Cons got the streets, ‘Ye got the globe, so we all gon’ eat. [Laughs]” (Hip Hop DX)
A confirmed release date for Dark Twisted Fantasy has not yet been made.
