Despite previous shots of the LP, the project’s official look turned up Friday (May 31).

On Friday (May 31), DJ Semtex revealed what’s being billed as the official cover, and it looks like the folks over at DONDA decided to tone things down a bit in comparison to the artwork that Kim Kardashian revealed on Ye’s behalf about a week ago. Just as Kanye was getting ready to hit the “SNL” stage to perform “New Slaves” and “Black Skinhead” last week, Kardashian Instagrammed a photo that included a pair of the unreleased all-red Air Yeezy 2 sneakers and a picture of a crushed CD case held together with a piece of red gaffer tape, topped with melted Jesus piece. The latest image, however, includes none of the golden goop. It simply depicts a CD case (with disc inside), the same red gaffer tape with the word “Yeezus” scrawled on it and a note in all-caps compelling fans to “Please Add Graffiti.” (MTV)

Last month, Ye’s pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian unveiled what most believed to be the album cover.

Apparently, his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, is also part of his marketing team. She posted a photo on Instagram Saturday night showing the album artwork for Yeezus alongside a pair of the rapper’s Air Yeezy sneakers, which he designed for Nike. “#Yeezus #RedYeezy’s #SNL #Tonight #NewSlaves #YeezySeason #Donda #June18,” she captioned the image. Heading into the weekend, reports claimed Mr. West is making last-minute changes to the upcoming LP.

Kanye West’s new album “Yeezus” is due out June 18, but he’s still in the studio putting the final touches on the track list. Chatter among music insiders is the rapper’s scrambling to add some consumer-friendly singles to the album. The aggressive tracks he performed on “SNL,” including “New Slaves” and “Black Skinhead” received mixed reviews. But an insider tells us that West’s reworking so close to the release date is “not in any response to any negative reaction.” He’s also bringing in extra marketing muscle to push “Yeezus” including Amy Thomson, who managed Swedish House Mafia and is working with West as a consultant. As of this week, Kanye’s new album is not available for pre-order purchases.

This is interesting and very Kanye like. But according to A.P.C. clothing brand founder and Kanye West’s friend Jean Touitou, his new album Yeezus is expected to skip pre orders completely and go straight for purchase, somewhat similar to the strategy they adopted with Watch the Throne. That also explains iTunes taking down the pre-order link which only went up for a day or so. (HHNM)
