Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West has even more reasons to smile after releasing a chart-topping album and welcoming a newborn daughter into the world last month as buzz about a new fashion collaboration has finally been confirmed.
According to reports, Yeezy has teamed up with French clothing company A.P.C. (Atelier de Production et de Création) for a special line of gear.
The collaboration was announced by APC via their Twitter page yesterday (July 7), by posting an image of blue denim with a red tag that says “APC Kanye”. The caption on the photo said: “APC Kanye Capsule Collection. July 14″ Last month, W Magazine hinted at the collaboration when they reported that the rapper was working on a “a new men’s capsule collection of jeans, T-shirts, and hoodies for a hip French brand”. Some fashion bloggers have already analyzed why Yeezy and A.P.C’s. partnership could flourish.
Some of the best artistic ventures stem from anger, and Kanye West has plenty of that – particularly when we’re talking about fashion. The perplexing lines “In a French-ass restaurant/ Hurry up with my damn croissants” from the song “I am a God” were written after an unnamed designer invited him to a runway show on the condition he wouldn’t attend any others. We’re hoping he channels some of this rage into a loose-fit jersey tee. (Styleite)
The rap star recently detailed his love and admiration for Paris, France.
His current exile in Paris–a town famously lacking in yes-men, where even a star like West is just another outsider who can’t get a table at his favorite restaurant if it happens to be full–seems like his latest exercise in self-abnegation, in the name of self-improvement. “In Paris, you’re as far as possible from the land of pleasant smiles,” West says. “You can just trip on inspiration–there are so many people here who dedicate their lives to excellence.” And inspiration is particularly crucial to West these days, given his ultimate ambition, which goes way beyond making hit records or developing a discerning eye for console tables. He’s plotting to create operas, stores, films, product packaging, amusement parks, and, possibly, entire cities. West is essentially out to redesign the world, if the world will let him do it. No stranger to the fashion market, Mr. West has shown his taste in style on multiple occasions.
Of course, this isn’t West’s first foray into fashion – he previously helmed his own eponymous label, which showed during Paris Fashion Week for two seasons, attracting the likes of Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and the Olsen twins to his front row. He’s also previously collaborated with Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci on his album artwork, was seen having a business meeting with Karl Lagerfeld in October – prompting rumors of a partnership with the Chanel helmer – and regularly features fashion as a focus in his lyrics.
