Kanye West Receives Blockbuster Co-Sign From Movie Director: “He’s Tireless In Trying To Create Sound & Music”

Renowned director Steve McQueen has dished out his respect for mega rap star Kanye West this weekend and, notably, explained what makes Yeezy stand out from your average hip-hop entertainer.

While McQueen would not reveal if a business-related venture awaited them, he did admit having a working friendship with Ye.

The 12 Years a Slave director has nothing but kind words for Kim Kardashian‘s other half. “We talk all the time,” McQueen gushed to us exclusively at tonight’s 66th Annual Directors Guild Awards in L.A. “He’s a very lovely man. A lovely man.” McQueen played coy when asked if the they have plans to work together in the future, whether it be for one of McQueen’s movies or West’s music videos. “I don’t know,” he said. “I mean, we’re working on a friendship.” (E! Online)

The Hollywood director also touched on what makes Mr. West so great.

As for why McQueen is such a fan of the “New Slaves” crooner, he explained, “Because he’s an experimenter, he’s tireless in trying to create sound and music. That he can be progressive within the now. He’s very current.” He added, “I’m just happy that he’s around.” (E! Online)

A few days ago, rap newcomer Kendrick Lamar spoke on what he learned from Kanye after touring the country with him last year.

“Kanye taught me to never to downplay your ideas,” adds Lamar. “I learned to always stay as creative as possible and never have any boundaries. Those things that people called ‘rants’ on-stage are real conversations that we had behind closed doors — about business and how when you get to a certain level people won’t want to see you break through because they only see you as a rapper.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

Back in late November, Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons wrote a blog post about Ye’s genius characteristics.

“We will no longer be lost in the world and we will survive in this America. I believe these truths to be self-evident. That is what Kanye West told me on a cold morning in New York City just seven days ago. It is his genius, his tenacity, his creativity, his relentlessness and his madness, that will allow us all to one day have the ability to touch the sky.” (Global Grind)
