Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West is reportedly still rocking with Young Money's Drake despite his decision to join the "enemy" in Nike for an exclusive Jordan Brand deal.
According to reports, Yeezus is proud of Drake for taking his career to the next level with the high-profile partnership.
He may hate Nike’s guts, but Kanye West says he’s got NO BEEF with Drake for signing a deal with the shoe giant — in fact, he’s downright happy for the guy, TMZ has learned Sources close to Yeezus tell us … Kanye is still real upset with the Swoosh for refusing to give him royalties for a shoe line. But we’re told when he found out about Drake’s new partnership with Nike for his own special OVO Air Jordans, Kanye was proud. As one source put it, “Kanye will always be happy with rappers taking steps in the fashion world.” Bros before OVOs. (TMZ)
Drake broke the news of joining Jordan Brand during a performance near Nike’s Portland headquarters last Tuesday (December 3).
“Growing up, I’m sure we idolized this guy. He goes by the name of Michael Jordan, you understand what I’m saying?” Drake said to the crowd at the Rose Garden Arena during his tour stop in Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday night. Known for its microbreweries, chainsaw wielding and local hero Timber Joey, Portland is also home to Nike and Jordan Brand’s corporate offices. “So today, I came to Portland and I officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family so I feel like I’m at home right now, if you understand what I’m talking about,” Drake said without getting into specifics. “And it is a family and I don’t take that word lightly.” (MTV)
Kanye recently compared ADIDAS’ belief in him to former Roc-A-Fella Records co-owner Damon “Dame” Dash offering him a record contract in the early 2000’s.
“Man, it just feels good to be able to create more, create product that I can control the pricing on, that I can do quality control on and I feel very comfortable to have a great partner backing my ideas and allowing me to think and be creative and giving me that shot the same way how Dame gave me a record deal ten years ago, gave me a shot and I was able to do something creative with it. This is a new opportunity for me, I feel like I got a new family, fiancée, child and a new creative outlet and as a creative person, you need those creative outlets.” (“Tall Boy”)
Mr. West also ceased the moment to promise there was no ill will toward Nike.
“I’m still going to do music but I really feel honored to, you know, to have had a chance to blow Yeezy up with Nike and I really appreciate everything they did for me. And I’m not knocking them on the way out. I apologize for my frustration earlier and I just think it’s time. It’s go time. It’s turn up time and I just wanted ot give y’all this interview right quick.” (“Tall Boy”)
