Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West has poked fun at his infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards 2009 Taylor Swift interruption by victimizing Britney Spears.
Referencing Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” single out-performing his new “H.A.M.” record on iTunes, Yeezy playfully hit up Twitter.
Oops! He’s done it again! Kanye West took to his Twitter today to interrupt Britney Spears just like he did Taylor Swift at the VMAs. “Yo Britney, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL” Kanye Tweeted. Glad to see Kanye can joke about it! Just before that he Tweeted, “H*A*M #2 on Itunes…THANK YOU!!!” Britney has taken the top with her new single, “Hold It Against Me,” but it seems like Kanye is still proud of second place since he did say he’d let her finish! Spears’ manager shared his reaction to Ye’s colorful commentary by responding.
Kanye was referring to the fact that Britney Spears’ single “Hold It Against Me” is #1 on iTunes, and his is second. So Brit’s manager Adam Leber then tweeted back, “@kanyewest Thanks for “letting” us be #1. Much appreciated…. -Adam Leber, Manager.” (Holly Scoop)
Last year, West discussed the aftermath of his televised interruption.
“The relationship with the public and with your fans is like the relationship with your girlfriend. How could I not, at a certain point, be like, ‘I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been at the awards show. I’m sorry.’ Not that I don’t deserve to get beat up or change who I am inside, to make sure that that doesn’t happen again…I knew I wasn’t in a great spot publicly after the incident, but I would just block it out and work as hard as possible and let my work be my saving grace. In a way, I had thrown a Molotov cocktail at my own career, and it gave me an opportunity, for the first time, to go away and find out who I was. Because I felt very alone.” (XXL Magazine)
At the 2009 MTV VMAs, Ye stole the spotlight from Swift’s acceptance speech.
Moments after Taylor Swift’s win for Best Female Video (‘You Belong With Me’) was announced tonight at MTV’s Video Music Awards, a furious Mr. West ran onstage, grabbed a mic, and interrupted her acceptance speech to announce his belief that Beyonce‘s ‘Single Ladies’ deserved that award instead.
