Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West has revealed what hip-hop artist he currently views as the hottest emcee in the rap game.

Although he shares a close-knit bond to longtime friend Jay-Z, Yeezy named Young Money’s Lil Wayne the best rapper out.

Not that he was expecting the top spot: In West’s opinion, the world’s No. 1 rapper is Lil Wayne. “Yeah, I just think… him and [Jay-Z] and [Eminem] and certain people are just the greatest rappers of all time,” he said. (Billboard)

Ye also boasted about himself, his music and his pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian.

However, when it came to his spot on the list, Kanye said, “I feel like in order for them to put me at #7, they had to bring up things they didn’t like — like the Cruel Summer album.” He then suggested that his critics prefer the backpack-and-polo-era Kanye over his current career choices. “They don’t like Givenchy Kanye, they don’t like Kanye in a kilt, they don’t like Kanye in a relationship.” Kanye also boasted about the bar in “Cold” in which he raps about Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband, Kris Humphries. “I said, ‘Lucky I ain’t have Jay drop him from the team’ — ain’t no bar of the entire past 12 months hotter than that one bar.” (Consequence of Sound)

Lil Wayne hooked up with Mr. West for his new I Am Not A Human Being II album cover art.

“(Kanye) said, you know, man, let me do your cover. I saw the cover and I approved it. He had an explanation behind it – he said, he chose the moth butterfly thing because it has so many different stages of life, and it goes through so many forms and changes, and no one can figure it out, and it’s always beautiful. At a time it’s ugly and at a time it’s beautiful too. And that’s me.” (NOLA)

Back in 2009, Weezy F. Baby defended calling himself the best rapper alive.

“Today there’s a lot of entertainers that don’t know about the grind,” Wayne said in an interview… “I didn’t get no flack from [saying ‘Best Rapper Alive’], of course from the haters, I mean from the man, Jay, he propped me up when he see. He gave me a lot of confidence to put a new song out called ‘Greatest Rapper Alive’ on my album and motivation was already there. And I felt I had to do whatever I had to do talent-wise to make it what it was.” (Music Choice)
