Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are making widespread headlines after reportedly violating airport rules in New York this week to board a plane to Los Angeles.
Details of what all went down 48 hours ago surfaced online Thursday (February 14).
Authorities say Kanye West and Kim Kardashian had to be privately screened after an airline employee allowed them to bypass a security checkpoint at New York’s Kennedy International Airport. Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says the celebrity couple had arrived at the airport on an international flight on Tuesday. She says after clearing customs and baggage, they were escorted by an airline employee “through a non-public area in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight.” Farbstein says this violated security protocols by bypassing the TSA checkpoint. She says that prompted TSA officials to conduct the private screening. (Washington Post)
The KimYe incident delayed their flight nearly an entire hour.
“An airline employee escorted the two travellers through a non-public area in order to provide expedited access to their domestic flight. In doing so, the airline employee violated security protocols by permitting the travellers to by-pass the TSA security checkpoint. “TSA officials learned of the violation and conducted a private screening of the two passengers in the area of the jetway. The passengers were cleared to board their flight, which departed after a delay of approximately 50 minutes. TSA is actively investigating the incident.” (SF Gate)
Kanye and Kim were returning to Los Angeles, via New York, following a mini-vacation in Brazil.
The spokesman said the employee was to blame – not Kardashian, 32, and West, 35. The couple, who are expecting a baby, had returned from Carnival in Brazil and were transferring to a flight to Los Angeles. They made the connection but were forced to disembark and be screened privately, delaying the flight for an hour. (PEOPLE)
