Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West maintains his college dropout status, as recent reports suggesting the aspiring fashion mogul's enrollment into design school have now been proven false.
According to a Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design spokesperson, West is not looking to hit the books at their institution.
“Kanye West is not enrolling in [the] MA Fashion [program] at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design,” Jo Ortmans, press officer for Central Saint Martins, wrote in an e-mail. “He visited the college last week on unrelated matters.” Regardless of whether he actually studies it or not, West has continued his fashion obsession in recent weeks, tweeting his admiration for Italian designer Valentino and bestowing “fresh” status on a kid in a junior-sized fur coat. Reports of West’s latest interest emerged over the weekend.
Central Saint Martins’ masters program is arguably the most prestigious fashion course in the world. So Kanye West, rapper and fashion obsessive, has reportedly pulled a James Franco and applied. The UK’s Sun says that West flew into London last week to meet with the head of the program, Louise Wilson. (Fashionista)
An inside source also confirmed the rapper’s intent to enroll.
West met with course head Professor Louise Wilson, whose previous students have included late designer Alexander McQueen, on Wednesday. “The rapper already has work experience with Fendi and Louis Vuitton on his CV,” a source told British newspaper The Sun. “Now that he has been interviewed, the school’s board will have to decide whether to allow him to start the MA fashion course later this year.” (Showbiz Spy)
A couple years ago, West expressed an interest to become a fashion intern.
“I was blown away from the planet when he told me,” famous designer Raf Simons said. “I know he’s very seroius about this — I don’ take it as a joke — but how can I imagine him being my intern? It’s a very extreme situation.” (New York Times)
