Just a week after completing a three-year jail stint, Mobb Deep’s Prodigy has given his first interview opening up about his time behind bars and why Kanye West is currently his favorite rapper.

Recalling his jail sentence, P said he forced himself to attempt different writing patterns for songs.

“It feels incredible, man,” P said when asked about his feelings since being released from jail last week. “I’m just happy to be back, be back to work on the music and everything we got to take care of. A lot of the things I was doing [in jail], I was writing a lot of blogs and putting it out there on the websites and the streets. I was writing a lot of lyrics, of course, for songs and I tried my hand at some poetry, different writing types of stuff. At this point in my life, I see a lot of people — just doing the same thing. Nobody’s unique. Everybody copies off each other, everybody wears the same kind of stuff. Nobody’s an individual anymore.” (The Source)

He also praised the ingenuity of Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West.

“I can’t front, I’m liking what Kanye’s doing,” P added. “There’s a lot of new talent but Kanye is the man right now. I love his creativity. That’s what I’m talking about as far as being unique and creative and being different. Kanye is doing it.” (The Source)

Last Saturday (March 12), G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks released an in-studio photo alongside Prodigy.

“@PRODIGYMOBBDEEP got some fire!!and he’s on cold corner 2,” Banks tweeted.

Earlier in the week, Banks detailed his intent to secure some studio time with Prodigy.

The self-proclaimed Punch Line King announced a special track he has in mind for his former G-Unit teammate Prodigy. “I haven’t spoken to him yet,” Banks said. “We gonna get something done.” Banks added that he has, however, been in contact with the gruff-voiced rapper’s longtime producer and comrade the Alchemist and promised that the pair will work together. He mentioned that he already has a record in mind for the collaboration, which would include another artist. “I had the crazy record, [but] I’m not gonna say the other feature, but hopefully I get a good one,” he teased.
