Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West recently gave an extremely rare media interview to the New York Times in which he touched on everything from preparing for parenthood with pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian to analyzing his place in society.
While he did not delve too much into his personal relationship toward Kim K, Mr. West did discuss the love they have for one another.
“Any woman that you’re in love with or that loves you is going to command a certain amount of, you know, energy. It’s actually easier to focus, in some ways. … I’m the type of rock star that likes to have a girlfriend, you know? I’m the type of soul that likes to be in love and likes to be able to focus. And that inspires me. … [Parenthood?] That is a really interesting, powerful question. One of the things was just to be protective, that I would do anything to protect my child or my child’s mother. As simple as that. … I don’t want to explain too much into what my thoughts on, you know, fatherhood are, because I’ve not fully developed those thoughts yet. I don’t have a kid yet. … Well, I just don’t want to talk to America about my family. Like, this is my baby. This isn’t America’s baby.” (New York Times)
Ye even boast about his knack for attaching himself to trend and culture-setting movements throughout his career.
“I’ve been connected to the most culturally important albums of the past four years, the most influential artists of the past ten years. You have like, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes, Nicolas Ghesquière, Anna Wintour, David Stern. I think that’s a responsibility that I have, to push possibilities, to show people: “This is the level that things could be at.” So when you get something that has the name Kanye West on it, it’s supposed to be pushing the furthest possibilities. I will be the leader of a company that ends up being worth billions of dollars, because I got the answers. I understand culture. I am the nucleus.” (New York Times)
Recently, Kim talked about her close-knit relationship with Yeezy and while they are expecting a child together there is no rush to have a wedding.
“[Marrying Kanye?] Don’t you think I should slow down? I think I should slow down. I’m just really enjoying my time with Kanye right now and we wanna have the baby and when you know how it’s gonna be in the end there’s no need to really rush it right now. … He also gets so defensive. He’ll call and say ‘Who’s saying mean things?’ And I’m just like ‘Don’t worry about it. I’m so used to it.'” (EXTRA)
After a publicized split, Kardashian legally had her divorce from NBA player Kris Humphries go through earlier this month.
Kim Kardashian is officially divorced from NBA player Kris Humphries — just in time for the reality-TV star to give birth to her first child, a girl, with beau Kanye West. The judgment was entered in a Los Angeles court Monday, officially ending the 72-day 2011 marriage. The Brooklyn Net forward initially sought an annulment, claiming that the couple’s marriage, including a televised wedding, was based on fraud. (NY Post)
