Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West‘s battle with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is far from over with the non-profit organization going at him over some dicey furs.
Heading into the weekend, PETA issued a statement on Yeezy donning a fancy fur coat on Friday (January 17) in Paris.
The animal right’s group released a statement to RumorFix, which reads, “Kanye has only to lie down, and he’d be mistaken for roadkill in all that skin and fur. This isn’t a style that the public has embraced since the caveperson era. Kanye may be admired for his music, but he and his fiancée are vulgar dressers and callous when it comes to the suffering of living beings other than themselves.” (RumorFix)
In 2012, Mr. West struck a chord with the organization over controversial lyrics from his “Theraflu” track.
When PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals) learned of ‘Ye’s defiant lyrics, the animal rights group lashed into him with scathing words of their own. “What’s draggin’ on the floor is Kanye’s reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings,” said PETA’s Senior Vice President Dan Mathews in a statement sent to XXLMag.com. “He’s a great musician but doesn’t seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes. We keep hoping that one day he’ll find his heart and join evolved style icons–including Russell Simmons, Pink, and Natalie Portman–who have dropped animal skins.” (XXL Mag)
Back in 2010, PETA publicly went after Ye and ex-girlfriend Amber Rose for their dicey fashion statements.
West apparently lives by his lyrics. The ethical dropout–who horrified voters in PETA’s Worst-Dressed Celebrity competition last year–and his sleazy sidekick, Amber Rose, were snapped by paparazzi strutting around Paris in “the ugliest things,” indeed. Both were wearing head-to-toe fur, and Amber refused to remove her full-length lynx coat during a show at Paris Men’s Fashion Week. As PETA V.P. Dan Mathews so eloquently put it, “Kanye can’t help making himself look like an idiot, whether at an award’s show or a fashion show. He and his girlfriend look like pathetic creatures from a shabby roadside zoo.” (PETA)
One of its spokespersons released a statement slamming Def Jam star Rihanna a couple years ago over snake skin boots.
“Rihanna may not have a clue that snakes killed for boots are often nailed to a tree and skinned alive. Of course, they can’t go on Oprah to cry about it,” said a PETA spokesperson, referring to the singer’s recent appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show. “Wearing reptile skin is creepy and callous, and it makes her look even more out of touch. She and Lady Gaga seem so desperate to be freaks instead of recognized for their talents that you have to wonder if they realize that they are being laughed at.” (Huffington Post)
