Chicago rap star Kanye West has acknowledged leading the 54th Grammy Awards with the most nominations and analyzed why he got snubbed for “Album of the Year” at his hometown concert this week.

Speaking to a packed crowd, Ye blamed his non-stop album-making ability, including this year’s Jay-Z Watch the Throne joint effort, for providing an overabundance of hits.

“There’s something I figured out earlier today, because you know, everybody came to me last night like, ‘Congratulations!’ because you know I’m leading, had the most Grammy nominations once again,” Ye told screaming Chicago fans at his United Center concert. “Like we always do at this time. But, you know, people focus, they say, ‘You ain’t have Album of the Year or Record of the Year.’ But I figured out though, that’s my fault for dropping Watch the Throne and [My Beautiful] Dark [Twisted] Fantasy the same year. I should have just spaced it out a little bit more. But don’t worry, because me and Hov gonna keep on making sh*t. It feels so good to be home.” (YouTube)

Although he did not receive an “Album of the Year” nod, Ye still managed to secure the most Grammy nominations.

Adele is up for six Grammys including song and record of the year, for Rolling in the Deep, and best album, for 21. Rapper Kanye West leads the field with seven, while Bruno Mars and the Foo Fighters also have six each. Mars, also up for best song, record and album, said; “It feels incredible.” British band Radiohead are up for five awards including best rock performance and song for Lotus Flower. Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne also landed a handful of nominations.

Other leading contenders for the major music industry awards show include the Foo Fighters, also with six nominations, while Lil Wayne and newcomer Skrillex have five nominations apiece. The nominations for the top awards were announced during a televised concert in Los Angeles featuring performances by Lady Gaga, Usher and up-and-coming country singers The Band Perry. This year’s ceremony will also be slimmed down from its typical amount of categories.

This was the first nominations announcement since the Recording Academy announced changes in the nominations process, reducing the number of categories from 109 down to 78. The 54th Grammy Awards will be televised Sunday, February 12th from Los Angeles.
