Kanye Plays Himself After Dissing Lenny: “An Embarrassed Kravitz Was Heard Saying, ‘He Doesn’t Know I’m Here'”

Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West might want to reconsider who he name-drops in his rants after reportedly taking aim at rocker Lenny Kravitz last weekend during a concert not knowing he was in attendance.

Details of Mr. West’s embarrassing moment have started to scatter across the Internet.

Kanye West wowed the Garden Sunday night — but interrupted the concert for a 20- minute rant against the fashion industry, calling himself “The 2Pac of this [bleep]” and the “No. 1 rock star on the planet.” In the middle of a blistering performance, West went on a bizarre diatribe about Lenny Kravitz — not realizing that Kravitz was actually there in the audience cringing. Before a crowd that included Leo DiCaprio, Idris Elba, Busta Rymes and John McEnroe, West raved, “It’s so funny when people compliment me and they say the word ‘genius’ as if that somehow separates me from other rappers in some way …. I need you all to realize that Jay Z is a genius, and Drake is a genius …. we are the modern day poets, obviously.” (Page Six)

To make matters worse, Kanye’s comments reportedly embarrassed Lenny.

He continued, “There wouldn’t be no song called ‘N****s in Paris’ without Lenny Kravitz, because he was the first n**** in Paris. Lenny has the best taste and the dopiest crib in Paris …. he designs furniture and he had been working on a clothing line for a long time …. I said, ‘Wait a second, I’ve got a dream of doing a clothing line.’ You know what the billionaires told me while I was in Paris? They said Lenny wanted the same thing, like it was a joke…. There wouldn’t be no Kanye West if it wasn’t for Lenny Kravitz. The only difference is I turn up on those n****s, I don’t give a [bleep] about looking cool or being cool, and this is no disrespect to Lenny.” While an embarrassed Kravitz was heard saying, “He doesn’t know I’m here,” Kanye continued, “Have you heard anyone talk [bleep] about Lenny Kravitz? He’s a nice guy, he’s so well mannered. I envy people who are extremely likeable, I’m like, ‘Damn, I wish I could be likable like that.’ (Page Six)

In recent footage of Ye at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, he used an opportunity to single out pop star Bruno Mars and the MTV Video Music Awards.

Kanye West had his second of two performances at the Barclays Center last night, and this time, he decided to voice his opinion about the MTV Video Music Awards. According to Kanye, he was outraged that Bruno Mars won “all the awards.” Mars won the awards for Best Choreography and Best Male Video, the former for “Treasure” and the latter for “Locked Out Of Heaven.” According to Kanye, these awards were given to Mars in order for the networks to sell the most product using “the prettiest motherf*cker out.” Kanye attacked Media Takeout and those who comment on the site (which he apparently looks at beyond the 10th comment). He took issue to those who call the Yeezus tour “the best rap concert,” insisting it’s the best show across any genre of music. He also recounted a conversation he had with Oprah recently. She apparently told him, “They’re scared of you, Ye.” Kanye’s response? “I said, ‘Oprah, it’s a new day.” (Complex)

West’s remarks came after he not only appeared but performed at the summer MTV VMAs show.

Kanye West performed at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 25) for a historic seventh time. West captivated the Video Music Awards audience with a dramatic version of ‘Blood on the Leaves’, which features on his current album Yeezus. His performance was noticeably more intimate than previous turns on the awards show, with West rapping passionately against a projected image of a darkened landscape. The rapper’s seventh performance at the MTV awards show tied him with Madonna for the all-time record. (Digital Spy)
