The 17 year-old displayed his rhyming skills while appearing on Los Angeles radio station Power 106’s “Big Boy’s Neighborhood.”

Justin Bieber showed off his rap skills during his appearance on Power 106’s “Big Boy’s Neighborhood.” The pop star, who goes by the rap alter ego Shawty Mane, freestyled over Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Otis” beat. “I thank Jesus at the awards, I’m never going to hell/ Call me Zack Morris, I’m saving you by the bell/ My girl says I’m perfect, she just loves an imperfect person perfectly/ Personally, I think she is perfectly perfect,” he rhymed. Although not a freestyle, Bieber recently covered Lil Wayne‘s “How to Love” Tha Carter IV single.

If you, like Vulture, forgot to send a really awesome present, don’t worry; Justin Bieber was on top of it. Young Biebs tweeted out a remix of Wayne’s oft-maligned hit single “How to Love” late last night, with an obligatory birthday greeting. Okay, hear us out: Even if you weren’t a fan of the slightly dull original, you might enjoy this cover. In fact, this cover might explain why many Wayne devotees weren’t particularly jazzed on the single. This is actually a Justin Bieber song! Granted, Biebs tries a lot harder in his version: We’re talking harmonies, a meandering guitar riff, and even a brief appearance by Shawty Mane (that would be Bieber’s rapping alter ego, though this breathy verse maybe only counts as half-rap). Over the summer, Wayne explained his decision not to work with Bieber at this stage in his career.

While fans can expect to hear both Heartbreak Drake and Ms. Minaj on Tha Carter IV, it’s the two Justin’s that Weezy F. also talks about. “That’s my little homie now,” Wayne says of The Biebs. “He texts me every night asking me to do [his] d*mn song. That’s my n*gga, but I can’t do it. Like I said, I don’t want to f*ck his sh*t up. But like I said, I want to work with Justin Timberlake. That boy got a voice; that boy can sing. He needs to come back right there on Tha Carter IV.” (XXL Mag)

Fans hoping to hear more hip-hop from the Canadian-bred emcee can look forward to Kanye West and Drake appearing on an upcoming Biebs LP.

In an interview with Capital FM, Bieber said he’s getting some high-profile folks to work on tracks for the album. “Very soon [it’ll be released], after my Christmas album,” JB revealed. “It’s going to be coming out. It is called Believe. I’m working with a lot ofcool people. I’m working with Kanye [West]. Drake is going to work on the album with me.” It’s hardly the first time Bieber has been in the mix with Drake and Kanye. Bieber recently put his spin on Drake’s “Trust Issues,” and while Drake wishes JB had left the track uncensored, he had high praise for his fellow Canadian. “He’s like a talented kid … from Canada, so to hear him even remix that song is crazy,” he said. “That’s incredible.” (MTV)
