The Diplomats’ Juelz Santana has detailed Dipset’s official roster and why their unity is comparable to the Mafia crime family.
Despite spawning associations with multiple artists, Juelz said Dipset solely consists of four rappers.
“Cam, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, Freekey Zekey, that’s the main four,” Juelz said in an interview when explaining Dipset’s roster. “That’s the frontline. That’s where it kinda begins, but you know, shout-out to J.R. Writer, Hell Rell, 40 Cal and we have Un Casa. Casa set off the first Diplomatic Immunity album, so, you know, at the end of the day, it was a movement. That whole situation. Now it’s just like the mafia. The reason I say that is Diplomats, that’s the mafia. And now you have all these branches of family — that’s where my Skull Gang comes in, that’s where Jim Jones’ Byrd Gang comes in to play. Zeke has the 730 [Dips] and that’s what my artists are to be built into at the same time. Eventually they gonna have their own things that they want to go out into and they won’t be able to be as much as Skull Gang because they helped build it — but once again, it’ll all be under the same umbrella, that’s what makes it so much stronger.” (Vlad TV)
Diplomats are reportedly set to ink an album deal with Interscope Records.
After an interview at The Source Magazine headquarters where Freekey Zekey insinuated that a Dipset deal with Interscope Records was possible by pointing to a magazine cover with Dr. Dre‘s picture (in addition to the revelation that the group has actually recorded with Dre), Freekey has confirmed that the group will be signing a deal with the label. “The papers are not actually signed right now [sic] but you could basically say it’s going down,” said Freekey in an interview with QTheQuestion.com, when prompted about the possibility of a deal with Interscope. In-studio footage of Dipset with Dr. Dre recently hit the Internet.
“Right now, I’m being schooled by Dr. Dre, the greatest, what,” Jones said in the footage while in a studio booth. “Incredible. Incredible. Incredible. The best in the world.” (D.A.Y.O.N.E.)
In late August, rumors were circulating suggesting Dipset would sign with Interscope Records.
Weeks after both Cam’ron and Jim Jones tweeted about a potential label deal “almost being done,” the Dipset reunion seems to be inches away from being official. A source close to the New York crew says Cam, Jimmy, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey are finalizing a label deal with Interscope Records — the former home of Cam’ron rival 50 Cent‘s G-Unit crew. Go figure. No official confirmation yet, but, we’re going to run with it. Wishful thinking! (Billboard)
