After months of speculation, Dipset's Juelz Santana has confirmed the rumors that the Diplomats are locked in to a deal with Interscope Records.
According to Santana, fans can anticipate new things in 2011 under the Interscope flag.
“It’s back to live action, it’s back to doing what we do best,” Santana explained in an interview. “We got the deal with Interscope. Shout-out to [Interscope Records CEO] Jimmy Iovine. I’m sure people seen the pictures up of us and [Dr.] Dre, so, you know, we’ve done records with Dre. That was a beautiful experience. Dre had Jim [Jones] in the booth for like an hour and a half…” (Ozone Mag)
Cam’ron recently talked about his studio sessions with Interscope’s Dr. Dre.
He definitely made me rap my verse like 33 times,” Jones told us this past week about working with the good doctor. “It was cool. It was a great experience.” Cam’ron also experienced Dre’s penchant for perfectionism: “He made me get out and do my verse over,” he recalled. “He’s real intricate. Basically, he was like, ‘I want this kind of flow,’ and he’ll mumble it out,” the slick-witted MC continued, explaining the process. “It was like, ‘Yo, go do that again; it’s terrible.'” (MTV)
Jim Jones also said Dre placed high emphasis on pronunciation.
Jones likened process to something from his younger years. “Humbling is the word,” he said of working with The Chronic star. “He made you pronounce your syllables right. It was like school in there. It’s like real rap school when you’re in the booth with him. You either feel like you’re getting better or a student.” (MTV)
Last year, Dipset’s Freekey Zekey hinted at a Interscope deal being in the works.
After an interview at The Source Magazine headquarters where Freekey Zekey insinuated that a Dipset deal with InterscopeRecords was possible by pointing to a magazine cover with Dr. Dre’s picture (in addition to the revelation that the group has actually recorded with Dre), Freekey has confirmed that the group will be signing a deal with the label. “The papers are not actually signed right now [sic] but you could basically say it’s going down,” said Freekey in an interview with QTheQuestion.com, when prompted about the possibility of a deal with Interscope.
