John Forte Released From Prison, Pardoned Rapper “Looks Forward To Spending The Holidays W/ Friends & Family”

John Forte

After presidential pardon and seven years behind bars, Rapper John Forte will be released from New Jersey’s Fort Dix prison today (December 22).

Fote’s lawyer, Aarti Tandon, confirmed the rapper’s release to SOHH. “Yes, John Forte was released this morning,” he told SOHH. “He looks forward to spending the holidays with his friends and family.”

Pardoned by President George W. Bush late last month, Forte was free to go from a mandatory 14 year prison sentence. The Grammy winning artist has become one of the 16 people to have received a pardon or reduced sentence in the final months of the Bush Administration. As fans and family alike prepare for his return home, the Forte-supporting website www.freejohnforte.com has shared a special message reminding people of today’s importance.
“December 22, 2008 – Homecoming Day,” the site reads. “John is incredibly grateful for this second chance. He is looking forward to spending time with Family and Friends and wishes everyone Happy Holidays!”

The rapper’s rise to fame came from his work with The Fugees, helping co-write and producing two tracks from their multi-platinum selling album, The Score. He later released his 1998 solo project, Poly Sci, with Wyclef Jean behind the boards as producer.

As previously reported by SOHH, Forte was arrested after being caught in 2000 at New Jersey’s Newark International Airport with 31 pounds of cocaine stashed in two briefcases. Despite being his first offense, he was later convicted of possession with intent to distribute and given a mandatory 14 year sentence. For more on your favorite rappers from the Big Apple peep SOHH NYC]
