Diplomats' Jim Jones has opened up about getting involved on the G.O.O.D. Music-meets-Dipset "Christmas In Harlem" collaboration and why Kanye West is no longer on Cam'ron's naughty list this holiday season.
According to Jimmy, Cam actually reached out to him for his verse on the record.
“I didn’t know nothing about it, I’m just getting hip to that right now but it’s simple though,” Jim Jones said about the collaboration coming together. “Sh*t, if I was Kanye I would’ve called us too. It don’t make sense if they from Chicago, they would’ve made ‘Christmas in Chicago’ then right? Cam called me, sent me the beat, I did my part, sent it back to Cam and he took care of the rest of the business…I couldn’t tell you what that [beef] was about but I know Cam and [Kanye’s manager] Don C are like best friends. We’ve actually known Kanye and them for over 10 years from some of our earlier shows when we first got into the music industry so we have a great rapport with them more than anything else. I don’t think people took what we did so serious more than it was [just the] art of the music that we do. I guess Cam had something on his mind but it wasn’t really a life-or-death situation. And I know Kanye’s a very smart person, he’s got a great spirit, so it’s great that he chose to look past anything that was going on. I appreciate it.” (MTV)
G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean recently gave his reaction to Dipset and Yeezy coming back to terms for the sake of music.
“Yeah man, the rap game is too small to have beef,” Sean said when asked about Kanye and Dipset. “We are grown a** men, all money is green, so you might as well just put what ever you got to the side if it’s not that serious. You know, unless it’s just something that requires that much attention. The beef that was there was nothing. It’s all fam, it’s all love.” (The Source)
Following the song’s leak earlier this week, producer Hit-Boy revealed how “Christmas In Harlem” reached Kanye West.
“My boy Dala Roc hooked me up with Kanye’s cousin, Ricky,” Hit-Boy said in an interview. “This was around the time when he started working on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I just kept sending him beats to try and get one on there. Then, on the night of Kanye’s New York release party, Ricky called saying Kanye wanted to use one of my beats for a Christmas song…There are some Marvin Gaye interpolations in there and it has that old-school feel to it.” (VIBE)
Earlier this fall, Cam went after Ye on his “Runaway” freestyle and accused him of dissing former Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash.
Jim Jones and Cam’ron leaked a new song today (September 15) dissing Kanye West over the instrumental to “Runaway,” a song Ye premiered this past Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards. On the track Cam spits, “Kanye you a sucka n*gga/Dissed Dame [Dash], so my attitude is f*ck the n*gga/Stuck to Jigga. How you gon’ live with that? Took the beat, now come get it back.” (XXL Mag)
