Dipset's Jim Jones has reportedly confessed to assaulting a driver he crashed into earlier this year and will face the music by beginning an anger management course.
Details on Jones’ guilty plea made headlines Tuesday (December 7) afternoon.
Harlem rapper Jim Jones was all smiles Tuesday after agreeing to take an anger management course in connection to an assault charge from earlier this year. Jones, whose hit single “We Fly High” became an anthem of the New York Giants, pleaded guilty to assault in the third degree in Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday morning, agreeing to participate in a 10-week anger management course. Prosecutors claimed that Jones, 33, whose real name is Joseph Jones, crashed a Bentley into another car near the Henry Hudson Parkway and West 178th Street in January and then attacked the driver of the other vehicle one afternoon. Specifically, the “Dipset” rapper was accused of punching the driver, pushing him onto the highway twice and throwing his keys into oncoming traffic, according to the complaint against him. Jones is also said to have kicked the vehicle twice, court documents claimed. (DNA Info)
Jones’ last publicized run-in with police took place in April 2009 when he was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Jones was driving his 2007 black Bentley when a Teaneck, New Jersey police officer noticed he was missing a front license plate, said police Capt. Keith Richter. After police stopped Jones around 12:10 a.m., they found the rapper had an outstanding warrant out of Paterson and arrested him. Richter confirmed Jones, who provided a Newark home address, paid $120 and was released. Paterson Police Lt. Donald Giaquinto said the warrant was for unpaid motor vehicle tickets. (North Jersey)
Outside of legal issues, Jones recently taught an eight-week music course over the summer.
“I think the business is pretty easy to learn especially the way the kids are so susceptible to music … they could learn a song in one day,” the rapper explained in an interview. “But, one of my angles I am coming with is building a bridge between music and real education. It seems that they learn songs in a way that they should be learning their lessons, but they don’t…I think I am still a part of the next generation of executives. I’m not a full blown executive yet, but I hope that I can lead by example as far as my hustle and my work ethic. I’m trying to make the classroom into a makeshift label, where we deal with publishing, marketing, and promotion. We could have an artist, a manager run through it and see how that would work.” (Baller Status)
In April, Jones revealed he was approved to teach high school students.
“I finally got the teacher thing cleared with the Board of [Education] — I’ll be teaching a curriculum for eight weeks before the school year’s out,” Jones told radio host Angela Yee. “I’m teaching all parts of what goes on in the music from the artistry part, from the executive part of it, from the label owner part of it, marketing, promotion, publicity, we gonna go through the whole motion with how important a lawyer is to an artist, what exactly a lawyer’s job is, what exactly a manager’s job is.” (“Morning After With Angela Yee”)
