President Barack Obama had nothing but his praises for Jay-Z last night (September 18) when he got treated to a fundraiser by the rap mogul and his Grammy-winning wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.
According to reports, President Obama dished out the similarities between himself and Young Hov at the 40/40 Club event in New York City Tuesday night.
September 18, 2012: President Obama had some high words of praise for his hosts on Tuesday night, joking that he’s actually got a lot in common with rap superstar, and new dad, Jay. “Jay-Z now knows, you know, what my life is like,” he said. “We both have daughters. And our wives are more popular than we are … So we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s okay.” He also noted that first wife Michelle and his daughters Malia and Sasha were mad at him because they could not make it to the fundraiser on a school night. Obama thanked both stars for their generosity toward his children and singled out Beyoncé for being a good example to the girls. “Beyoncé could not be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise,” he said. “And has so much talent.” (MTV)
President Obama also used last night to speak on how he sees America growing.
“We’re on the brink of an election, but more importantly, we’re on the brink of moving America in a direction where we’re going to be more just, more fair,” he said at the 40/40 Club in Manhattan, where Jay-Z is an owner. “The economy’s going to grow in a way that includes everybody, an America that’s respected around the world because we’re putting forward our best values and out best ideals.” Ms. Knowles, who sang at Mr. Obama’s inauguration in 2009, kept her remarks brief in introducing him. “I can’t tell you how proud we are to host tonight’s event with President Obama,” she said. “We believe in his vision.” (New York Times)
Reports claim the fundraiser brought in around $4 million.

One hundred VIP guests paid $40,000 each to attend the exclusive event, held at the rapper’s 40/40 Club in Manhattan. Beyonce, in a red cocktail dress, took to the stage to introduce the President. Rapper Jay-Z on Monday threw his support behind President Barack Obama’s stance on legalizing same-sex marriage. The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, said not allowing gay marriage was “holding the country back,” in an interview with CNN’s Poppy Harlow. “What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. [It] is no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple,” Jay-Z, a longtime supporter of Obama, added. (My Fox DC)
