With Iggy recently inking a Def Jam deal, Gomes said her buzz in America will help bring more hip-hop exposure to Australia.

“I think it’s great. I think that’s what we need. Definitely more me, I grew up listening to hip-hop. It’s the genre I enjoy the most. I think it needs to be more expanded in Australia because we just don’t get that. I would love to see an Australian artist succeed in the American market. I will definitely look her up for sure. Good luck to her. That sounds amazing.” (XXL Mag)

Speculation on Iggy’s Def Jam deal hit the Internet last week.

Iggy Azalea has been buzzing since she released her Ignorant Art mixtape, and its accompanying videos, and now it looks like the 21-year-old, Australia-born rapper might be close to inking a new deal with Def Jam. Iggy met with the Def Jam team, including Rihanna, in Los Angeles this week and all parties seemed to be pleased with the results. (RapFix)

A Def Jam music executive also hinted at something stirring up between the label and Iggy.

When we first heard of Iggy Azalea, we had the suspicion that she’d blow up quickly. Since then, it has become increasingly clear that the Australian born rapper has too much flare to remain unsigned for long. It looks like the doors are opening up and Iggy is feeling out her options. A tweet from the Bu Thiam, music executive at Def Jam, confirms that Iggy has been in talks with the legendary label. “Just spoke to the homie @IGGYAZALEA and all ima say is #History” (Complex)

This was later met by a reply from Iggy who also confirmed the meeting.

If that wasn’t enough, Iggy replied “Yup!!!” to a Def Jam A&R staffer who wrote, “@IGGYAZALEA dope meeting you tonight.. Cant wait til your officially part of the team.” Iggy has become an online phenomenon with her mixtape Ignorant Art and videos for “Pu$$y,” “My World,” and her latest, “The Last Song.” (Rap-Up)
