Music mogul Jay Z‘s Tidal streaming service is keeping up with the competition by announcing an exclusive album release this week.

Tidal announced music icon Prince’s upcoming Hit & Run Album LP would arrive through its service on social media.

Music streaming expert and MusicWatch managing partner Russ Crupnick recently said Jay’s publicized Tidal executive exits showed its hardships.

“It was a wasted opportunity,” Crupnick, told TheWrap. “I think they had a window in which people were listening but unfortunately that opportunity was squandered.” … “It’s kind of like the New Coke of streaming services,” said Crupnick, referring to Coca-Cola’s disastrous 1985 attempt at replacing its original formula with a new sweeter version. “That’s how badly it’s been marketed.” (TheWrap)

Recently, Tidal addressed a gossip-driven article about its services on social media.

Tidal announced new pricing plan options for its service earlier this summer.

Jay Z’s hyped music streaming service Tidal, which focuses on high-fidelity streams and exclusive content – including most recently, Prince tunes – is attempting to catch up to the competition today with the debut of its own “Family” plan. The plan, which is comparable to that from Spotify, lets additional family members sign up and receive 50 percent off their subscription. This discount is applicable whether they’re signing up for the $9.99 per month Premium plan or the $19.99 per month HiFi streaming option. (Tech Crunch)

    • Basquiat is very overrated. That dude was not talented. Just a gay pop art/ Warhol era

  1. Prince fanbase no longer buys music. unless you have Prince featuring Drake, the younger audience wouldn’t buy a Prince single.

    • You’re obviously not a prince fan ….. he might not do astronomical numbers but he gets decent numbers on any and everything he drops ….. smh @ you thinking he won’t get his fans to support unless drake is featured …….

    • Actually Prince fans may not DL his music they are more of the CD buying type BUT his constantly sells out shows. Also Tidal is back cause the have a Prince exclusive…..but no Dre so where does that really leave them?

  2. I’ll download this like I did Dr Dre new album and I don’t even have Apple music

  3. I only like 1 song on Compton and that is the first 1. I mean everybody sounds so different. It is not to good of an album

  4. Service exclusivity when it comes to releases is only going to make more people download torrents for free.
