Following in line with Jay’s wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Cano is the latest high-profile celebrity to join forces with the popular soft drink company.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports has landed New York Yankee Robinson Cano his first multimillion dollar sponsorship deal. The Yankee second baseman has signed a national deal with Pepsi to be the face of Major League Baseball for the beverage company. Cano’s first Pepsi ad will break at Citi Field during the All-Star game tomorrow. The Yankee slugger will also join Pepsi’s passion-driven “Live for Now” campaign, of which Beyoncé and Blake Shelton are also participants. Cano signed with Roc Nation in April as the newly formed agency’s first client, severing ties with his former agent Scott Boras. Cano said at the time he was signing with Roc Nation because he was “ready to take a more active role in my endeavors on and off the field.” (New York Post)

The baseball star recently defended joining Young Hov’s growing sports agency empire.

“We all know what kind of man he is and what he’s all about,” the Dominican Republic-born slugger said in an interview “It’s always good to be around people like him and share those good moments that he’s into and get some good advice.” (MTV)

The rap mogul recently took aim at Cano’s former sports agent on his new Magna Carta Holy Grail album.

Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z, who can now represent MLB and NBA players as an agent, took the time out of his busy schedule to rap about Scott Boras. Yes, the same Scott Boras that used to represent New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano. Now, Cano is signed with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Sports. Jay-Z will release his highly-anticipated album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” on Thursday and name-checked Boras on the song, “Crown.” “Scott Boras, you over baby. Robinson Cano, you coming with me,” Jay-Z raps on the song. (Sports Illustrated)

Following the song’s lyrics surfacing, Boras made sure to have a response.

“I’m a fan of jazz,” Boras told ESPNNewYork.com’s Wallace Matthews, “and my favorite musician is Bernie Williams. What other musician could play center field for the Yankees and win four world championships?” Boras also spoke to Rovell, without directly addressing Jay-Z or Cano. “What I’ve learned through my time in the business is that you can’t worry about external factors,” Boras said. “You just have to focus on being the best you can be. I’ve been asked to negotiate all kinds of things. And I don’t do that because I am singularly committed to the game of baseball. My company doesn’t do anything else.” (ESPN)

Back in April, Hov publicly spoke out on launching Roc Nation Sports with Cano.

Cano will be co-represented by CAA, a leading sports and entertainment agency, and Roc Nation Sports, a branch of a company founded by Jay-Z. Jay-Z announced the launch of Roc Nation Sports as a full-service sports management company on Tuesday. “Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years,” Jay-Z said.
