The unexpected record, “Whole Life,” has started to pick up steam since its weekend release.

There are some decent rappers out there in the NBA, namely Metta World Peace, Iman Shumpert, and Kevin Durant. But for the most part, NBA rapper releases feel like vanity projects. It’s like they’re rapping for the sake of simply showing they can rap and have the ability to produce a rap song without any sort of necessity. That’s not really the case for “Whole Life,” Durant’s latest song. The Thunder star decided to give local OKC artists Privaledge, Josh Sallee, and CL McCoy some shine. They aren’t rhyming over charity production either. (Complex)

Earlier this year, KD said his Oklahoma City Thunder fans did not need to worry about Jay Z trying to lure him to another basketball team by signing him to Roc Nation Sports.

“He has nothing to do with if I’m going to leave OKC or none of that. I heard that before, so put that out on the table. He has nothing to do with that. He knows his lane with me. Their team knows their lane with me. And they’re letting me handle the basketball part. I would tell fans not to worry about that at all.” (The Oklahoman)

Durant also recently spoke on his unexpected decision to make Jay an official business partner.

“It just seemed like a perfect move to me, something that there’s no risk in doing,” Durant told ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell in a “SportsCenter” interview. “Jay-Z is someone who is a guy who is well-respected in the business area, a guy that has done so well for himself and his brand. I’m looking forward to partnering with him and learning as much as I can from him.” (ESPN)

Back in June, Kevin made sure to formally show the world he was officially a part of Roc Nation Sports.

The Thunder star Instagrams his signing with Roc Nation Sports. It’s official: Kevin Durant is the newest member of the Roc Nation family. The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar posted a photo on his Instagram account of himself and Jay-Z signing the paperwork to make his agency change official. Durant is just the latest member of an impressive roster of clients Jay-Z has built up since jumping into the agency game, which includes Robinson Cano and Geno Smith. (USA Today)
