Rap veteran Big Daddy Kane recently spoke on his respect and impression of seeing hip-hop protégé Jay-Z turn into one of the music industry's biggest moguls to date.
Along with applauding Young Hov’s impressive rap journey, he also spoke on Jay’s Brooklyn Nets.
“I’m happy for him. I’ve always thought that dude was a good rapper and always wanted to see him achieve the best and he has,” Kane said in an interview. “[Nets in Brooklyn?] That’s beautiful. I love when big things happen for Brooklyn. I used to love the Nets back when Jayson Williams was playing for them. I hope they get it together and are able to contend for a championship. Even if they don’t win, I’d love to see them in the playoffs and the Finals.” (Complex)
Coincidentally, Jay brought out Kane at his Nets Barclays Center inaugural concert series last fall.
Another Brooklynite — Big Daddy Kane — made an appearance, performing songs like “Ain’t No Half Steppin'” and “Warm It Up, Kane.” He received a roaring cheer from the crowd when performing old-school dance moves with two dancers in all white. Jay-Z said Friday’s concert was incomparable to most of his other top-level performances, including the Grammys, Glastonbury or Coachella. “Nothing feels like tonight,” he told the crowd multiple times. Both Jay and his wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter were on-hand for the Nets’ opening night last November.

Prior to Jay blowing up as a hip-hop superstar, he used to perform at Kane’s shows.
During the early 1990s, Jay-Z is known to have been Big Daddy Kane’s hype man, and Kane helped him early on in his career – Ice-T says, “I actually met Jay-Z with Kane. Kane brought Jay-Z over to my house”. Kane himself says that Jay-Z wasn’t technically his hypeman in the true sense of the term – “he wasn’t a hypeman, he basically made cameo appearances on stage. When I would leave the stage to go change outfits, I would bring out Jay-Z and Positive K and let them freestyle until I came back to the stage.”.
