SOHH, amongst other specially invited media outlets, caught the action as up to 100 local kids and adults kept the spirit of Brooklyn alive in a fast-paced sneaker-designing competition.

Upon arriving at Brooklyn’s Long Island University Cyber Café, you could instantly tell the borough was in full effect. Kids decked out in Brooklyn Nets gear, a live deejay and local New York emcee host kept things pumping all afternoon and into the evening. Saturday’s agenda called for nearly 100 contestants to design their best Nets-themed sneakers while Fabolous, plus a few notable Nets players like Kris Humphries, Keith Bogans and Jerry Stackhouse had the tough decision of choosing the top one. As afternoon slowly faded into evening, the vibe remained as fans interacted with Loso, the Nets players and even joined in on some non-sneaker competitions.

Fabolous’ tunes jammed during the showcase as he also worked away at his own sneaker design and the Nets steamrolled inward, first starting with basketball veteran Jerry Stackhouse and eventually turning into a five-man crew of MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans, Tyshawn Taylor and Kris Humphries. The overall theme centered on putting your best foot forward and never giving up on anything. Although there were three winners in two groups of contestants (14 to 21 and 21 & older), Fab and the players reminded everyone they are equally talented and can conquer anything they put their minds to. The star-studded gathering was put together courtesy of the Brooklyn Nets Assist program which focuses on giving back to the community and helping better people’s lives through fun and exciting events like Saturday’s sneaker competition.

This event is part of the Brooklyn Nets Assist program, which stands to support four key pillars: Education, Athletics, Health & Wellness, and Community Development. Maimonides Medical Center is a supporting sponsor of Brooklyn Nets Assist. (Press Release)
