The NYPD’s Bomb Squad was dispatched to the Flatiron District Tuesday morning after a bizarre object that looked like an explosive was found in a phone booth outside a restaurant owned by rapper Jay Z, officials said. Police were forced to keep pedestrians away from the area.

The popular sports bar’s New Jersey location shut down in October 2012.

Atlantic City’s 40/40 Club, co-owned by hip-hop star Jay Z, has closed. The Press of Atlantic City reported the $4 million club actually shut down in October when its lease expired. Club spokesman Ron Berkowitz told the newspaper the club has not operated since Superstorm Sandy flooded it and tore a hole in the roof, right around when its lease ended. Since it opened in October 2005, the club hosted stars including Beyonce, rapper Lil’ Wayne, and rapper and current “American Idol” judge Nicki Minaj, in addition to numerous sports celebrities. A statement on its closure had surfaced online following the announcement.

The $4 million, two-level facility co-owned by hip-hop superstar Jay-Z closed in October, said Cristin Bentz, assistant general manager for Tanger Outlets The Walk. “Our leasing team is actively and diligently working to bring a great new tenant into the space. Stay tuned,” Bentz said. (Press of Atlantic)
