In this week’s Pulse Report, we’re going to applaud what Jay-Z has done with this new album promo, scratch our heads at how Kanye West‘s number one album could somehow have flopped, welcome back Chris Brown to being a “rapper” again and oh SOHH much more! [Editor’s Note: The views expressed in this column do not necessarily reflect those of SOHH] 1. I Still Will Not Lose Jay-Z’s not losing anything but maybe a few strands of hair when he goes to the barbershop and no one is complaining. Even though I’m a proud iPhone owner, he’s made Samsung seem like an actual competitor to the biggest wireless phone provider in the world, sorry Boost Mobile. LOL. Really though, Samsung may have took the quick hit by having to pay Jay a few millions to get his album out to a million of their fans but when you look at the return value, it spells nothing more than dollar signs left and right. Not only do you have Jay co-signing Samsung, but you’ve basically got advertising everywhere thanks to the “Best Rapper Alive” and his never-ending fanbase. He’s even got some of the biggest rap gods talking about his moves: Diddy p-diddy

“While I was out here I called Jay and me and him been talking back and forth about the network and about his deal and how proud we were of each other. We’re actually changing together the business model of the music industry. As far as our power, you can see the power that we have, not me and Jay-Z, the power that we have as a culture that Samsung now is going to give Apple a run for its money. People actually believe and we believe in our leaders in hip-hop. What they say is cool and what they say is next and we recognized that what Samsung is doing is moving forward. We were like “Hey man, we may need to give this Galaxy joint a chance” and that’s a lot of power, man.” (VIBE)

Master P Master-P1

“To be honest with you, I think it’s genius to partner up with a technology company,” Master P said of Jay’s big moves. “I’m working on [my album] right now and hopefully Verizon will call me real soon.” P went with his new idea, continuing, “My next record… I’ll drop it through them and do it at a football game or something,” he said, laughing and saluting Hov for continuing to think outside of the box. (MTV)

It’s been just over a week since Jay-Z announced his new album through a Game 6 NBA Finals commercial and now we’re seeing all these Samsung advertisements, billboads around 42nd Street of Manhattan and this sneaky way of revealing guest tracks by revealing the lyrics. Hate all y’all want but Jay is not losing. He has too much buzz going on with him and with Drake still trying to put his album together and Lil Wayne not buzzing as much as he was a while back, and oh yeah, Kanye’s album being “EHHhhhhhh” at best, Jay has an open field to prove why he’s the best. A week from today we all will have heard the album but from the looks of it, it should be a certified classic. 2. That Was Sick kanye-west-yeezus-650 I brought this up last week but it must be emphasized once again. There is NOTHING to like about the new Kanye West album. Nah, I take that back, who can hate on Kanye West for trying? But then again, is it really trying when you take Rick Rubin and ask him to put in two weeks of work to finish your album? Believe it or not, one thing I have to give my teachers credit for is giving me those bad grades back during my school days because I’d write up something minutes before having to turn in a paper, by hand, while most of the other students spent the whole week it was assigned to them putting it together. There’s actually something special about taking your time and perfecting your craft. I think I speak for most people when I say Yeezus would have been better received it Kanye would have just taken his time, planned on dropping it no earlier than September and let the album come to him, not vice versa. If you don’t believe me, here are two doggies that might think the same way: Kendrick Lamar Kendrick_Lamar

“It was hard for me to grasp it on the first take,” K-Dot told MTV News at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware. “I got it, but as I kept listening throughout the week, I understood where he was going and that was him stepping out of the box again and doing what he felt. And as an artist, we all need to take heat into that and salute that because, at the end of the day, it’s so much we can do following radio, following the politics in the business so for somebody to come back again and do what they want, it helps out new cats like myself, Cole, Drake, whoever, so salute.” (MTV)

Rick Rubin Rick-Rubin-507309-1-402

“To me it seemed impossible what he was asking. I remember I wasn’t feeling that well that day, and I was thinking, Is the music making me sick? I don’t feel good about this. We ended up working probably 15 days, 16 days, long hours, no days off, 15 hours a day. I was panicked the whole time,” Rubin explained. “There was so much material we could really pick which direction it was going to go. The idea of making it edgy and minimal and hard was Kanye’s. I’d say, “This song is not so good. Should I start messing with it? Can I make it better?” And he’d say, “Yes, but instead of adding stuff, try taking stuff away.” We talked a lot about minimalism. My house is basically an empty white box. When he walked in, he was like, “My house is an empty white box, too!”” (The Daily Beast)

Even “they” let you know something was off. Now look, for Kanye West reading this and everyone who thinks I’m just being a hater, it’s much more than that. I’ve always loved Kanye’s music but I’ve loved it because he seemed so well in-tune with what was being said and the sounds that complemented the lyrics. I feel like everyone is giving Kanye a pass because he has the number one album in the country. There’s something not quite right. Kanye West flopped. You can argue the fact Kanye sold more than 300,000 copies but that’s what he’s supposed to do. Duh. That’s like saying Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points. DUH. But we’re expecting Melo to put up 30-plus every night, match or even break career numbers. Hearing Kanye’s album and then getting the justifications, in my opinion, by his peers, I realize this album does not even come close to his past works. I’m all for being different and trying something new, but this Kanye album could only get me so far. I know y’all think I’m crazy for even saying Kanye flopped but when you look at the reviews and the fact “so-called experts” were expecting it to sell 500,000 in the first week, is there really much of an argument. Maybe because Jay-Z announced his new album hours before Kanye’s came out, his sales were not that big as in recent years. Don’t be in denial, Kanye should have spent more time on this. 3. Moment of the Week: Chris Brown Becomes A Rapper Again MAIN-Chris-Brown-involved-in-a-possible-hit-and-run-1917213 I know a lot of y’all won’t get what I mean by Chris Brown becomes a rapper again. For all y’all youngsters, Chris had always been known as the R&B kid when he was 16. But a few years, tears and beating later, of course I’m referring to the Rihanna attack, he had donned the title “rapper” by the mass media. Anyone that’s even familiar with the music industry knows that’s not even close to being true. So even when it died down, it came right back up with some serious allegations made against him. chris-brown-hit-and-run

Things went South quickly when Olga asked for Chris’ driver’s license, registration and insurance info. Karrueche handed over HER DL, and Olga wisely said she needed to see Chris’ DL. Karrueche said she was the owner of the vehicle so Chris didn’t need to supply any info. Olga says she persisted and asked for Chris’ info. When Chris and Karrueche refused to cooperate, Olga felt she needed to get a picture of the 2 of them in case they split. As soon as she snapped the pic (above), she says Chris and Karrueche went nuts. Olga says, “The guy [Chris] tried to grab camera or me. I jumped back, the girl [Karrueche] screamed, ‘Don’t touch her, don’t touch her!'” Olga says Chris then started to rant, “You are a b*tch! Who do you think you are, b*tch? Do you think if you driving Mercedes so got money, b*tch?” And then Olga says Chris dropped this, “Do you think I am just a black n***er.” Olga says Chris continued screaming and then “slammed a door and drove away fast and noisy.” (TMZ)

0624-chris-brown-victim-leg-tmz-3

Chris Brown has been accused of badly injuring a 24-year-old girl inside an Orange County nightclub Saturday night … and the alleged victim says it was so violent she might need surgery. Deanna Gines tells TMZ … she was in the VIP section with Chris at Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim — where he had just performed. When the bar was about to close, she claims Chris shoved her to the ground. Deanna tells us, the shove was deliberate and she fell hard on her knees. Deanna tells us she filed a police report, and a rep for the Anaheim PD says a female did indeed file a report for assault inside the club, but the rep won’t disclose the name. Cops are investigating. (TMZ)

Now we all know the latter allegation seems pretty false, but the fact of the matter is Chris is still getting described as some maniac doggy that is violent. Even though we know he’s a pretty cool guy, for the most part, this stuff is doing nothing to help his image. All those b-words dropping and even making the whole hit-and-run more of a racial situation? That’s tough. There’s been no doggy with a harder week than CB. Send him a funny tweet and cheer up his day. He could use a hug.

SMH. Eddie, you messed up doggy. Nicole Murphy’s a keeper. I know Michael Strahan is putting in work. SMH.

5. Rappers Say The Darndest Things Aight, we back. Thanks again for letting me have that moment last week with James Gandolfini. Doggy really made a difference in my life and got me through some rough days, kicking back and looking forward to a new episode of “The Sopranos” on those Sunday nights. Anyway though, we’re back at it with your favorite RAPPERS putting themselves on blast. We’ve gotta start with Yung Berg saying he wasn’t “into” Ray J‘s “I Hit It” first message. LOL! C’mon, a chance to get instant exposure and you’re turning that down? SMH. Then you’ve got some no-name doggy called Drock that’s going after Amanda Bynes AND Waka Flocka Flame? Who disses women and going at Waka? You gotta earn stripes first. Then it’s some groupie chick talking about how she got Chris Brown to take her panties during a concert? SMH. She’s not a rapper, but this has to be taken seriously. I’ve got a ton of respect for Rick Ross but you can’t call Africa a country under any circumstance. LOL. Lastly, N.O.R.E. speaking on baby North West? For what!? C’mon, there’s no reason he should have even commented! 1. Yung Berg Yung-Berg

“As far as his new single, he actually sent me the record four months before the song came out and they wanted me to get on the song but through the content…that wasn’t my story. I told him respectfully that I didn’t want to do the record but we could do anything else and I just wanted to stay away from that because it wasn’t my truth.”

2. Drock

“‘Sour Patch’ did 150,000 in one day so I’m probably going to drop the Waka Flocka record in the next week. He’s a clown. This is going to be so easy,” Drock added. “I’m a true lyricist and he’s just a clown, a muppet. That’s his name right, he’s a muppet. At this point, I don’t give a f*ck. I’m not doing this for my fans. I love my fans and if you’re not my fan, hopefully you’ll listen to my music and you’ll become a fan. I’m doing this for a reason, for art, for the culture of hip-hop music and what I feel is moving. People like Kendrick Lamar, I love his music but people like Waka Flocka, he’s doing nothing to better the music, so I don’t give a f*ck about him. He’s setting hip-hop back another 10, 15 years. He’s a f*cking hype man. Even his man Gucci said he’s not loyal. F*ck him, I don’t give a f*ck.”

3. Chris Brown Groupie 0624-chris-brown-panty-owner-tmz-3

We now know why Chris Brown kept the silky panties some chick handed him while performing on stage Saturday — the chick is SUPER HOT, and her panties came unused … but sweaty. TMZ has learned the undies tosser is 21-year-old Carol Quiroz — and she tells us she’s such a HUGE CB fan … she had to make her presence known at the Anaheim show Saturday night. Carol says her plan was simple … “I wrote my name, number and Instagram on the thong in permanent marker. I got his attention and handed it to him.” Groupie 101. Carol also cleared up the most important detail — the panties were NOT used, but she admits she was holding on to them in her bra. “I definitely had boob sweat on the panties.” For the record … Carol says Chris hasn’t contacted her. Yet.

4. Rick Ross Rick-Ross-Promo-486x650

“Just landed in the beautiful country of Africa..I can tell you that the world is excited for #TheGifted,” Ross tweeted June 24th.

5. N.O.R.E nore-6

“I’m just stoked,” he told us on Friday (June 21) over the phone after he completed his morning jog. “There’s a lot of children named after Nas, there’s people named after Pun, there’s people named after Biggie, Jay-Z, so on and so forth, and I’m just honored that her nickname remotely sounds like my name.”

  1. So Kanye’s losing because people who don’t know what they’re talking about predicted numbers they had no reason to predict? That makes no gotdamn logical sense homie. No single, no promo (miss me with that building projection shit), no cover.

    • i dont get it either. How on earth could they predict his numbers when his album couldnt even be preordered. Those numbers were just made up

    • all that equals recoup homies! make no mistake; Kanye still got paid off this album and that all that matters. Plus I can listen to it now like Kendrick says, it just takes a minute to get use to it. Smoke something and bump the whole album and you will understand

  2. I feel like these post belong on tmz or media takeout. I never seen such blatant hate or twisting of words.

  3. “Even though we know he’s a pretty cool guy” i don’t know about you but who’s we? i don’t CB personally lol! it sounds like Karreuche chick saved his ass from catching another charge for assault smh…

  4. Fans versions of flops and the Labels version of a flop are completely different things.
Fans think for people like Kanye to sell anything less than 500k first week is a flop.
Labels say a flop is if they shipped a million copies of an album and pumped millions into marketing and promotion and it only does 100k.

  5. First Samsung is the highest selling mobile brand in the world, u know USA isn’t the world right?

  6. I despise the fact that you say “doggie” so much, I really do. I don’t see much other terms in Hip-Hop journalism as corny and artificial as that term. I damn well could be ignorant about where you come from and not understand the use of “doggie.” However, every inch of my skin crawls in disgust every time you use it. I actually find myself dreading coming across that dumb and juvenile word every time I’m on this ‘site. I know you won’t listen, but I can’t stand your use of that word.

  7. well i didn’t know selling over 320,000 in 1 week was a flop, he has the chance to go gold within a months time, smh at this foolish article

  10. The Kanye West album was an excellent work of art. You don’t even understand what your “two doggies” were saying about it. Rick Rubin wasn’t saying it was bad. Just because an album is stressful to work on under time constraints, doesn’t mean it’s bad. Some people work well under pressure. He said even said something to the effect that it was more fun working on than the new Jay-Z album because Kanye was in a “more progressive headspace.”

And Kendrick turned a conversation about Kanye’s album into “I salute him for it, opening the door for J. Cole, Drake, and me.” He didn’t understand it “at first” because his music is straight ahead rap music and this album challenged the formula of “this is what you need to make a hit rap record.”

    Long Live Kanye West.

  11. who is this pole smoking retard writing for you sohh? no wonder i’d rather get hip hop news from world star. this site is fucking garbage. this bitch hates on Christina Milian and Kanye all the while riding Chris Brown’s dick. fuck outta here ratchet ass rap blogger.
