In Young Hov’s perspective, people should be allowed to exercise their right to marry whoever they like.

Rapper Jay-Z on Monday threw his support behind President Barack Obama’s stance on legalizing same-sex marriage. The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, said not allowing gay marriage was “holding the country back,” in an interview with CNN’s Poppy Harlow. “What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. [It] is no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination plain and simple,” Jay-Z, a longtime supporter of Obama, added. (My Fox DC)

Despite the perceived positive effect of President Obama’s publicized stance, reports claim there could be negative results later on down the road.

A New York Times/CBS News poll released Monday night shows the possible political perils of President Obama’s recent announcement that he supports same-sex marriage. Most of those polled say the president’s position will not impact how they vote. But among those who say it will influence their choice, 26 percent said they are less likely to vote for Obama as a result, while 16 percent say they are more likely to. And in what is expected to be a tight race, “even a small shift in swing states could be costly.” (ABC News)

Last month, the president detailed his admiration and respect for Jigga.

“The commander-in-chief spoke out about his rap star preferences in a brief interview with The Atlantic, telling the magazine he prefers Jay-Z to the hot-headed hip-hopper. But Obama was quick to give a nod to Kanye West, whom he insulted after the singer ruined Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech by jumping on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009.'[Kanye’s] a Chicago guy,’ Obama told the magazine, which published the interview on Thursday. ‘Smart. He’s very talented.'” (NY Daily News)

In October, Jay came to his defense and said critics should fully consider his position before hating on the president.

“I still think he is the best man for the job,” Jay said in an interview. “Yes, I think he got a raw deal and a bad economy. You wouldn’t be given anything you can’t handle so he must be really special, because he has a lot of work to do!” (E! Online)
