Jay Z Praises LeBron James’ Greatness W/ Epic Speech: “King James” [Video]

Music mogul Jay Z knows LeBron James is much more than an NBA superstar. The hip-hop mogul put the spotlight on King James with an undeniably great Sportsperson of the Year speech.

Last night (December 12), Young Hov touched on LeBron’s contributions both on and off the court before introducing him to the stage for his Sports Illustrated award.

“Titles in Miami, then he returned to his hometown to lead his Cleveland Cavaliers to their first championship in franchise history. That was superhuman though. But aside from the fierce competitor and dominating basketball player that is LeBron James, who is LeBron James? The individual. Philanthropist. The man LeBron James is even better than the basketball player is hard to believe. I’ve witnessed his work with Boys & Girls clubs, building basketball courts in less fortunate areas like where we grew up in like Brooklyn here, reaching back and giving out opportunities – he’s a dedicated family man who married his childhood sweetheart, Savannah, has three lovely children, the son who honors and worships his mother Gloria, the friend who put his ‘posse’ in position, I know. We know where we come from, we do understand where we come from and the only difference between us and someone who has their MBA – is opportunity. … You messed around and got a triple-double in real life. I wrote that joke myself. He is a true friend, my friend, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award, ladies and gentlemen, please rise, the Sportsperson of the Year, King James.”

Rap veteran Sadat X recently talked to SOHH about King James’ greatness.

“It’s still New York Knicks all day but I coached high school basketball for a few years. When LeBron James was just 13-years-old, he was the top 13-year-old in the country. When he was 14, he was the top 14-year-old in the country. Every year that he’s aged from 13 and up, he’s been the top person in that age bracket. So for him to do what he’s done and everyone at ESPN saying he’s not a warrior, this-and-that, he ‘is’ a warrior. His game is just a little bit different than everybody else. When he gets a full head of steam going up and down that court, I dare you to stand in front of him. I feel sometimes he just gets a bad rap. I think he’s the top player in the game. Everyone says he’s not Michael Jordan, well nobody is going to be Jordan. Nobody is ever going to be Mike. Mike is Mike. And I think this year, with him coming back like that, it has to solidify his legacy.” (SOHH)

Earlier this fall, James penned a thank-you letter to rap star Kanye West.

A few months ago, LeBron invaded rap star pal Drake’s Summer Sixteen Tour in Ohio.

Cavaliers star LeBron James graced the stage, and hopped around with Drake during the song, yelling the words to the song. Afterward, Drizzy passed him the microphone to talk to the crowd. Drake delivered a great line at the end of the appearance, claiming he could stay on stage all night since LeBron makes the rules in Cleveland. (Sports Illustrated)
