Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z took over “Saturday Night Live” last night with multiple performances of tracks from his latest album, The Blueprint III.
According to reports, Hov performed “Empire State of Mind” and “Young Forever” during the weekly televised show.
Musical Guest: Jay-Z “Jay-Z took the stage where he first performed a medley (that was apparently too long ) of his hit songs and eventually was joined by Bridget Kelly for “Empire State of Mind.” Later on Mr Hudson wearing some strange pants teamed up with the rapper on “Young Forever,” which he dedicated to the “most incredible Betty White.” Too bad Betty and Jay did not do a skit together. According to the show’s host, Betty White, she was scheduled to perform sketches with Jay.
“The nerves are running rampant tonight because I’m scared to death, if you really want to know the truth,” she said about the big show this weekend. “Well, there are a lot of sketches coming up. I know it seems like about 350, and I will be doing a couple of sketches with Jay-Z, so that should be fun. “The “Golden Girls” star said she thinks performing alongside Jay will finally prove to all her pals that she’s still hip. “I’m very excited about meeting him, and I bragged to all my friends who think I’m over the hill,” she joked. “Well, I did a sketch with Jay-Z.” (MTV)
White previously said she was excited to meet the rap mogul.
When Betty White hosts Saturday Night Live May 8, the musical guest will be Jay-Z. And as the TV legend told reporters on a conference call today (April 28), she’s getting into an Empire State of Mind, so to speak. White told reporters that she has been familiarizing herself with Jay-Z’s music. “Oh, I’m thrilled to meet him, thrilled that he’s going to be on the show because he’s the hottest thing since sliced bread,” said White. “I will certainly enjoy him; I hope that we get along well.” (Dose News)
However, there were no details on whether Jay and White would be performing together.
There’s no word yet whether Jay-Z and White will team up on any of the Mother’s Day episode’s sketches. (Mother Lover, version 2.0, perhaps?) As White explains, she has yet to meet with the show’s writers. “I haven’t a clue what I’m going to be doing,” she said. “So I’m getting a little bit panicky, but I look forward to maybe sitting down with the writers and hearing what they have in mind.” (The Province)
