Based on tweets from Billboard, who attended Jay’s Watch the Throne listening session Thursday (July 7) night, Hov is two songs deep into his own LP.

“Jay-z said two songs already completed for his next solo album, and four concepts banked. Frank ocean appears on one already done. #WTT,” Billboard tweeted.

“Jay-z said wanted to make album for the music, not for sales/hits. Said he’s turned off hearing blatantly commercial/formulaic songs. #WTT”

“Jay-Z said began recording in england last year, then australia, NY, LA, Paris and NY again. Often in hotel rooms. #WTT” (Billboard’s Twitter)

In September 2010, Q-Tip said he was working on Jay’s solo LP.

“You know, I hate to sound self-involved but I feel like I haven’t peaked yet. I have a lot to give still. I still look the part… I still got it. I’m getting ready to work on stuff for Mary J. Blige… Kanye and I are gonna continue to work together. We’re doing some stuff for Jay-Z’s new album that’s coming out in the spring, and then after Jay’s thing I’m gonna start recording my new album…Kanye should be working on that, too.” (XXL Mag)

Earlier that same year, Tip said he was hoping to become attached to Jay’s BP3 follow-up.

“I just try to work with people who I admire or whom I think has got it,” he revealed in an interview. “So right now I’m working on Nas‘ sh*t, about to work with Kanye on his sh*t. Just trying to keep up my momentum. I’m about to work with Talib [Kweli] on his project. I been trying to work with Hova for a while so hopefully he’ll realize the heat I got and come with it [laughs].” (Brooklyn Bodega)

In February 2010, Jay said he would not begin working on a new album until wrapping up the Blueprint III tour.

Mr. Carter tells The Associated Press that he has started thinking about his twelfth studio album. “Maybe after I finish [the ‘BP3’] tour I’ll start another album,” he reveals, adding, “Maybe at the end of the year. We’ll see if the inspiration hits me.” But for now, he’s concentrating on perfecting the second leg of his arena tour. “I’ve been working on my live show for 10 years now, just trying to get it better and better. I used to come out with just a DJ, now I got a band. The production’s gotten bigger and the lighting guy takes off his shoes and he plays to the beat,” he laughs. “The whole thing is being upgraded every single year.” (Rap-Up)

Watch the Throne is slated to drop in August.
