Rap mogul Jay Z's growing Roc Nation Sports roster continues to add star power to its line-up with the addition of New York Giants free agent Hakeem Nicks.
Nicks broke the news to fans across his Twitter page Thursday (February 20).
“I’m proud to become a part of the #RocNationSports family!,” Nicks tweeted February 20. (Hakeem Nicks’ Twitter)
Along with joining New York Giants’ Victor Cruz, Nicks should recognize some other local superstars at Roc Nation Sports.
Half of Roc Nation’ clients play for New York teams. The firm also represents Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia and Jets quarterback Geno Smith. Detroit Lions defensive end Ndamukong Suh was recently added to the client list, joining Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano and WNBA player Skylar Diggins. Despite starting his career with the Giants, some sports analysts expect Nicks to find a new team.
But after two consecutive disappointing seasons, it’s unlikely the Giants will pay Nicks more than the five-year, $43 million extension they gave Cruz a year ago. He’d probably receive more as a free agent, although he said toward the end of the 2013 season that he was more interested in being comfortable with a team than the money. (Newsday)
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith recently spoke on Jay Z being very influential with off-field advice since joining Roc Nation Sports last year.
“I talk to Jay a lot,” Smith told The Post. “He gave me some good advice. He told me to not take [criticism] personally. It’s not that people don’t like me. It’s not at me. It’s the position that I’m in. Just realize the position that I’m in comes with a lot of scrutiny. You can’t take it personally. You just have to live your daily life.” (New York Post)
