Grammy-winning rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West's aim to push out their Watch the Throne duet album sooner than later is evident with reports claiming the music stars took over an entire New York City hotel floor this week.

According to reports, the duo are recording music in lower Manhattan’s Mercer Hotel.

Kanye West and Jay-Z have been recording together in high style at the Mercer Hotel this week. The artists have been working together on an album, “Watch the Throne,” to be released in the summer. A spy reports, “They took over at least one whole floor and moved in their equipment, which may have annoyed some of the guests.” Of working with West, Jay-Z recently said, “This is another level of recording . . . really, he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now . . . how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable.” Reps for the artists and for the hotel didn’t get back to us. In late January, Kanye West told fans the album would be out in the spring.

“I could never do stand up cause I tell jokes better when I’m sitting,” West tweeted Sunday (January 23).

“I’ll be back this SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!! IN THE STUDIO NOW WITH THE BEARS GAME ON … WATCH THE THRONE COMING IN 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!! MY NEW ALBUM COMING THIS SUMMER … ALL THE LIGHTS VIDEO IN 1 WEEK!!!!!! THIS IS HIGH END RAP MUSIC I just threw some bassoon on this muthaf*cka” (Kanye West’s Twitter)

On New Year’s Eve, West also said the joint project would be ready within seven days.

After his star-studded concert with Coldplay at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Jay-Z headed to the grand opening of Marquee nightclub where he held court with Kanye West. Yeezy and his big bro popped bottles of Ace of Spades champagne before announcing some exciting news. “Watch the Throne coming in one week,” said ‘Ye about his collaborative project with Jay. Bottles of the pricey bubbly were passed out before Kanye toasted the douchebags with an impromptu version of “Runaway,” while a jubilant Jay spit his verse from “Monster.” If that wasn’t enough, Rihanna joined the party by singing part of “What’s My Name?” (Rap-Up)

Later reports suggested an early March release date.

Despite Ye’s NYE claim that his joint project with Jigga, Watch The Throne, would drop sometime “this week” , sources close to Kanye and Def Jam have informed me that the album has a solid and official release date: March 1st, 2011. I was also told that the official first single, a track the public has yet to hear, is set to drop on January 11th, but could come as soon as Friday. Perhaps, that’s what Kanye meant when he said it was coming this week? (Fake Shore Drive)
