With his Finally Famous debut album finally in stores this week, G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean took a moment to think about his success and share his experiences rubbing elbows with rap mogul Jay-Z.
In addition to having a good relationship with his boss Kanye West, Sean claims he is also cool with Young Hov.
“He’s a great guy. He’s like Kanye’s big bro–he’s family,” Sean explained in an interview. “We’ve had dinners where we just kick it with each other and talk and I just soak up knowledge from him. Once, we were in the studio and we just talked for hours–it was just me, him, Kanye and I think No I.D. was there, and I was just thinking ‘D*mn, how did I get here?’ Jay-Z is definitely a person who doesn’t give a sh*t and, from an OG’s standpoint, lets you know if you made a mistake so you don’t make another.” (Interview Magazine)
Sean also envisioned where he wants to be in five years.
“That’s a good question. I think I just want to be remembered for my story and as an example to always move on the impulse of your heart, and not give a f*ck what people think,” Sean added. “When I graduated from high school, the teacher said I was throwing my life away following music, and the same teacher invited me back to speak at the school. I don’t say that to brag, I just want to be an example. I never want to look back on life and say I wish I did something, and I don’t want anybody else to do that. I want my music to and serve as a message for this–my music to ride to, smoke to, have sex to, cry to, and just live to.” (Interview Magazine)
Earlier this year, Sean talked to SOHH about Kanye West and Jay-Z’s upcoming Watch the Throne album.
“Man, I was in the studio with Jay and Ye about a week ago,” Sean told SOHH. “I heard some songs. It’s gonna be good man, it’s gonna be history. [Talib Kweli heard] ‘Black Excellence.’ To be honest, I think the most unexpected part is kind of out the way with ‘H.A.M.’ That was probably the most unexpected. That was probably the last kind of track I was expecting to hear from Jay and Ye but they definitely have some tricks up their sleeves. And they have some types of songs that you would think they might have. They really did a good job at covering all aspects, from the songs I’ve heard.” (SOHH)
The raper’s Finally Famous debut album is slated to sell nearly 100,000 copies in its opening week.
SoCal rapper Big Sean’s Finally Famous: The Album, his feature-length debut after a series of critically acclaimed “Finally Famous” mixtapes, is the first release under Kanye West’s new deal for his G.O.O.D. Music label, through Island Def Jam Music Group, and should do in the 90-95 range. (HITS Daily Double)
