A trailer for the upcoming 42 flick emerged online this week with Hov’s music in the backdrop.

The new Jackie Robinson biopic about the life of the legendary Brooklyn Dodgers baseball star who broke the color barrier, 42, is scheduled to hit theaters April 12, 2013. And quite fittingly, Jay-Z’s song “Brooklyn (Go Hard)” is featured in the trailer. Of course, they honed in on the line, “I father, I Brooklyn Dodger them/I jack, I rob, I sin/Aw man, I’m Jackie Robinson/Except when I run base, I dodge the pen.” Well placed. Jay has kept busy over the summer, notably becoming the executive producer to the upcoming NBA 2K13 video game.

Rapper and Brooklyn Nets part-owner Jay-Z is set to executive produce NBA 2K13, the 13th installment in 2K Sport’s popular basketball game series. The news was revealed via his Life + Times website in a trailer featuring his song “Public Service Announcement” from “The Black Album.” The 24-second viral video is narrated by Michael Jordan and also showcases the cover baring Jay-Z’s name in the top right corner. NBA 2K13 is currently available for pre-order and is set to hit shelves on October 2. While it’s unclear the type of music Jay-Z has in mind for the soundtrack, in the past, both indie rock and hip-hop music have been featured. (Billboard)

His new Barclays Center doors opened to select media outlets yesterday in Brooklyn, New York.

After decades without a professional sports team, New York City’s ascendant borough hit the major leagues again on Friday with the opening of the Brooklyn Nets’ new arena. The state-of-the-art, 18,000-seat arena will be officially christened Sept. 28 with a rap concert by Nets co-owner and native Brooklynite Jay-Z. Supporters cheered Friday as the lights were turned on during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. “This is going to send a loud and clear message that Brooklyn has arrived as a center of exciting entertainment, thrilling big time sports and thriving commerce,” New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg told the crowd. Starting next Friday, Jay will kick-off a straight line-up of scheduled music acts ranging from Lady Gaga to Barbra Streisand.

Hip hop giant, Brooklyn native and arena investor Jay Z will start the festivities next Friday with the first of eight concerts. Barbra Streisand, also of Brooklyn, will perform in October. The Rolling Stones will mark the group’s 50th anniversary with concerts in just two locations — London and Brooklyn. Not your cup of tea? Lady Gaga, Andrea Bocelli, Bob Dylan, Justin Bieber, Neil Young and The Who are all coming soon. (New York Daily News)
