The two rap legends, who toured together last summer, snagged multiple Grammy trophies.

Rap mogul Jay-Z’s three-award Grammy juggernaut rolled early: At the afternoon ceremony he collected awards for best rap/sung collaboration and best rap song (for his duet with Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind”) and best rap performance by a duo or group (for “On to the Next One,” with Swizz Beatz). Eminem – the year’s comeback kid (his album “Recovery” has sold 3.5 million) and the day’s top nominee, with 10 nods – took best rap album, and in the early going as “Not Afraid” pulled in best rap solo performance honors. Although Em won “Best Rap Album,” he experienced a tough loss courtesy of rock band Arcade Fire.

Meanwhile in an upset, rockers Arcade Fire bested Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, Katy Perry and Eminem, winning the night’s biggest honor, album of the year, for their third album, The Suburbs. The band, who performed a rollicking version of “Month of May” earlier in the telecast complete with bicycle-riders, immediately took the stage again and sprinted through an anthemic version of “Ready to Start” after collecting their award from Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Ten-time nominee Eminem picked up best rap album for Recovery during the ceremony. “Okay, this is crazy,” he said as he received a standing ovation. “Thank you to the fans.” (PEOPLE)

Young Money’s Drake also took home a loss to a jazz newcomer.

Arcade Fire pulled off an upset at the Grammys on Sunday night, winning album of the year over Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Meanwhile, Esperanza Spalding pulled off her own Grammy upset, taking home best new artist honors over teen pop sensation Justin Bieber. The singer — who becomes the first jazz act to win best new artist — also beat fellow nominees Florence + the Machine, Drake and Mumford & Sons. (Hollywood Reporter)

Prior to winning gold at the Los Angeles showcase, Shady Records’ Royce Da 5’9 said Em had no expectations of bringing home another Grammy.

“It’s funny, I just had the conversation with him about it,” Royce said in an interview referring to the upcoming Grammy Awards . “He doesn’t think he’s gonna win anything. He wouldn’t bet me, though. But I think he honestly thinks he’s not gonna win. Which I think is ridiculous — I think he’s gonna win. We’re rooting for him.” (MTV)
