Rap mogul Jay Z is showing no signs of retiring from the business side of the entertainment industry as reports claim he has a new fancy watch hitting store shelves this fall.
According to reports, Jigga Man is going to flaunt his love for luxury watches by teaming up with maker Hublot for a limited edition collection.
Shawn Carter (aka Jay Z) is one of the most successful musical artists and entertainment personalities of all time. A fashion and lifestyle icon, Mr. Carter is also a known watch collector and serious aficionado. A new limited edition collection of watches marks a new point in his relationship with luxury Swiss watch maker Hublot. Jay Z and Hublot go back a bit. Not only did he sing about Hublot watches in his song “Otis” back in 2011, but Hublot timepieces have been seen among his normal wrist watch wearing rotation, which includes high-end timepieces from many other brand such as Rolex , Richard Mille, and Audemars Piguet. The pricey watch will reportedly range from nearly $20,000 all the way up to $33,000-plus.
This fall Shawn Carter and Hublot will launch the limited edition “Shawn Carter by Hublot” Classic Fusion watches. In either black ceramic or 18k yellow gold. Based on the existing Classic Fusion watch collection, these 45mm wide watches contain the modern and elegant Hublot HUB1300 manually wound movement that has a long 90 hours of power reserve. The Shawn Carter by Hublot Classic Fusion watches will be part of a limited edition. Hublot will produce 250 pieces in black ceramic and just 100 pieces in 18k gold. Prices are $17,900 and $33,900 respectively. (Forbes)
This announcement comes a week after reports of Jay teaming up with Barneys to put out a New York-inspired line surfaced.
Two years ago, Barneys turned into Lady Gaga’s playground for the holidays. Last year, the retailer went head-to-toe Disney. This year, Barneys is going home for Christmas with… Jay Z? Yep, the luxury store is moving in a new direction for its annual holiday campaign. Women’s Wear Daily reports that Barneys is partnering with Jay Z for “A New York Holiday,” a Christmastime promotion that will include limited-edition products by designers such as Lanvin, Balenciaga, Balmain, Rick Owens and Proenza Schouler. 25 percent of sales from the collection will go to Jay’s Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. Mr. Carter credited his love for the Big Apple for inspiring his collection.
“With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces,” he explained to WWD. “Everything that encompasses A New York Holiday – the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery – represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me.” Fitting in with the festive theme the designs will be on sale from November 20 until January 3, and 25 per cent of the sales are to be donated to the rapper’s Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
