After years of planning, the hip-hop minority owner finally got to see his dream play out on the Barclays Center floor.

Beyonce and her hubby Jay-Z attend the Brooklyn Nets home opener at the Barclays Center on Saturday (November 3) in Brooklyn, N.Y. The 31-year-old singer and the 42-year-old rapper watched from the front row as the Nets beat the Toronto Raptors 107-100. The team initially had planned to christen the arena by playing hometown rival New York Knicks.

They were scheduled to open Thursday against the Knicks, but that was postponed at the request of Mayor Michael Bloomberg because travel to Barclays Center would have been difficult and perhaps dangerous with so much of the city’s mass-transit system not operating. (Boston Herald)

The NBA commissioner appeared at the Barclays Center to officially welcome the Brooklyn Nets to the league.

NBA commissioner David Stern declared: “Welcome Brooklyn, USA, to the NBA.” Former Brooklyn Dodgers players Ralph Branca and Joe Pignatano took part in pre-game ceremonies to tie the Nets to Brooklyn’s fabled sporting past, dormant since the Dodgers left for LA in 1957. (Guardian)

New York rapper Fabolous vouched his support for the Nets last month.

On Monday, NBA TV kicked off their behind-the-scenes look at the ups and downs of an NBA Season in “The Association.” This year, the show will follow the one of the most talked about teams, the Brooklyn Nets. Kicking off their first episode was Fabolous, who performed a new freestyle dedicated to his hometown team. You can catch episodes every Friday night on NBA TV, while the 2012-2012 season begins October 30th. (Miss Info TV)
