Kiss said his decision to focus on big hits has delayed the project.

In an interview with Jenny Boom Boom of Hartford’s Hot 93.7 radio station, Jadakiss stated the album will drop as early as October, following the releases of Def Jam label mates The-Dream, Rick Ross, Kanye West and Young Jeezy. With three songs already finished, Jada explained, “Their huge songs. That’s why I’m taking so long and that’s why I’m being so careful with the production. The beats don’t even need words on them, that’s how good the production is.” While his previous three albums were between 17 to 21 tracks long, Jadakiss says Top Five Dead Or Alive will be a shortened 12 to14 records. Last month, Kiss stressed the importance of making sure his album’s production was on point.

“I got about three good ones,” he said of the songs. “Not even recorded. I got probably two verses off each song. Maybe four good ones. [DJ Drama] sent me something. I’m doing real careful selection on production on this project…Even my street joints, even if it’s a symphony. If every verse got 75 curses in it, I want the production to be big…I was gonna switch the name up. I put it on Twitter, I put it on every website you can imagine, and that came back unanimous. So Top Five, Dead or Alive it is, baby…It’s Def Jam, Roc-A-Fella, Ruff Ryders, D-Block, Aphilliates, Green Lantern, a couple of other white guys [releasing it.] You know how this game is. Everybody is in the pot. But it’s enough money for everybody.” (MTV)

Citing DMX‘s past ability to release multiple solo projects within a 12-month time span, Jada previously dished out his aim to feed the streets sooner a year ago.

“I’m definitely going back in,” Kiss explained about preparing his next LP. “The D-Block album is wrapped up, I’ma make sure we finish up this Lox album, I’m coming right back though. I think ten months, after X did that time they switched the rule that you gotta wait. I think you gotta wait ten months [before your next album.] So you know, nine or ten months but I’m coming right. Think I’m gonna call it Top 5 Dead Or Alive and I’m only gonna work with [DJ Premier], Alchemist, Swizz [Beatz], Dame Grease, nah mean?” (MTV)

Currently working on the new LOX album, Kiss recently released a free underground project.

“Yeah Champ Is Here Part 3, coming May 1st,” Jada promised. “That’s the day of the Floyd Mayweather and Shane Mosley fight, I thought that would be an appropriate time to release the part three of The Champ Is Here [series]…I just try to give you, I don’t try to get out of my element. What really made me do the tape, I was in Dallas and a few other places and people were like, ‘Yo Kiss, we need some of that music, we need some of that other type of music,’ so I feel it’s only right that I step in and fill that void. I don’t try and go out of my limit or over exert myself with what I do. Try to keep it real, rugged, something for the ladies, something for the young people, something for the thugs — hopefully it comes out great.” (The Source)
