Roc Nation’s J. Cole has opened up about his biggest collaboration hopefuls and said he would love an opportunity to snag music veterans Andre 3000 and Lauryn Hill.
From Cole’s perspective, a collaboration with either artist would be a dream come true.
“I got a lot of people I would love to work with, but before I feel like they stop doing music for good because you never know, I would love to work with Andre 3000,” Cole told radio host/rapper Nelly referring to the OutKast member. “And Lauryn Hill. I feel like I would love [to collaborate with them], because any moment with them, any moment it could just stop. I would love to work with one of them. There’s others, I would like to get Kanye on a track, something of that realm.” (Rap-Up)
Despite previously naming artists like Nas and Jay-Z as artists he wished to work with, Cole said he would also be up for producing a track for R&B superstar Beyonce.
“Five artists I have to produce tracks for as soon as I finish my album, Wale,” Cole revealed in an interview. “That’s my man and I’m attached to that album, I want to see it do well and I feel if I’m on it, then I’m going to see to it that it does well. Nas for the same reasons. I feel I could give Nas the best material of my life on a production end. I’m such a fan and have been a fan. Jay, I gotta get something on Jay one of these days. Beyonce, one of these days, but that’s like further down the road, you know you gotta be on a higher level to mess with Beyonce. And then the fifth, I say Andre 3000. I know he’s been working on this elusive solo album but if I could get something on there or something with him, period, than that’d be beautiful, so I say those five.” (BET Music Matters)
Cole isn’t the only rapper who has 3000 on their collabo “wish-list”. Recently, Drake said he planned on working with Andre 3000 for his sophomore album.
“I really tried to do a song with Andre 3000, but I think it was meant for my second album,” Drake said in an interview. “Dre is one of those people that needs you to do a little more. He’s one of those people that believe in his craft so much that he needs you to do more than just be over hyped or just famous. In his mind, I have to prove myself and the truth is, I do. That’s just being real. I have a lot of work to do, so I actually respect him for that. I think on the second album I’ll probably only have two features. I have a few people in mind and Dre probably will be one of them.” (VIBE)
Earlier this year, Chamillionaire talked with SOHH about wanting Andre 3000 to make a rap comeback.
“One person I really think should come back man is Andre 3000,” Cham told SOHH. “I don’t know if he’s going to but man, the game needs that dude man. For real. Musically, anything, features, I’d be happy with anything. He’ll do one feature every ten years. [laughs] Like d*mn man, he came out with that ‘Walk It Out’ remix and that was ill, he ripped it. And that was it, he kinda fell back again. That’s kinda what a lot of the OG’s are doing.” (SOHH)
