Murder Inc. head Irv Gotti recently addressed Eminem‘s placement on Vibe‘s “Best Rapper Alive” list and questioned the rapper’s emcee skills as compared to Jay-Z and Ja Rule.
Claiming his opinion is not based on their past beef, Irv broke down his issues with Slim Shady.
“Vibe did a thing and they had him as the No. 1 rapper,” Gotti said. “Sh*t like that kinda pisses me off. You know why? Because let’s take Eminem’s records. Watch my analogy. Eminem is a great artist, no doubt. He puts words together, he’s witty, a smart lyricist, a great lyricist. But how can we say the guy is the best rapper alive? Look at Hov…I been to battles with [DMX], Jay and Ja, that was some real sh*t. Homie, you wouldn’t been able to survive…I say take Eminem, and let him say ‘Hard Knock Life.’ Still hot. Now, let’s have Jay-Z say the ‘We Made You’ song. They would laugh him out the f*cking building…It would be over.” (MTV)
Hip-Hop legend Melle Mel previously questioned why he wasn’t placed at No. 1 on Vibe‘s list and why rappers like Joe Budden did not address Em.
“My only surprise is that I’m not No. 1,” Mel said in an interview. “I don’t really consider Joe Budden young and I don’t think he know but I just think he think that Melle Mel would be a softer target. I don’t think he wants to question the fact that Eminem is No. 1…I got a [body] chart, let’s just say if it’s from 1 to 30, let’s say Melle Mel would be the throat part or the mouth part of hip-hop. Joe Budden is down here at No. 32, that’s somewhere around the a** crack or ball sack of hip-hop…You take Melle Mel out the equation, nobody would be the same. All these cats that say they selling dope would really have to sell dope.” (T7 Live)

In addition to performing on tracks like “Renegade” together, both Em and Jay were recently seen on the stage alongside one another at a DJ Hero secret show.
“I love performing with Jay,” Em said in an interview this week. “It’s the third time we’ve done the song together live and it’s always fun. It was an honor to share the stage with him again and to work with his band.” (Rap Radar)
