Music mogul Irv Gotti knows it’s often deeper than rap. The hip-hop executive has taken a moment to acknowledge protégé Ja Rule‘s 41st birthday.

Gotti went to Instagram Tuesday (February 28) to put some respect on Rule’s name.

A few months ago, Rule announced his final album plans.

“The album is called Coup de Grâce. Anybody that knows me knows that I like having titles that are a little different, from Venni Vetti Vecci to Coup de Grâce. I think it’s a full circle for me. The meaning of Coup de Grâce is “final blow,” and this is my last album. Venni Vetti Vecci was “he came, he saw, he conquered,” so that was kind of like my intro. That’s the full circle.” (AOL)

Back in 2015, Ja Rule talked about his issues with fame and wanting to fade to black.

He turned to me, unprompted, and said, “I’m getting weirder as I get older. I just want to be a recluse, I want to disappear. I mean, I am doing a reality show…” He trailed off and then started up again, quickly: “I used to love being famous, it was the dopest, funnest thing. Not anymore.” (GQ)

In the past, Ja admitted nearly having a chance at collaborating with rap rival 50 Cent.

“We had like a semi-relationship back in the days. We used to be on [late hip-hop pioneer] Jam Master Jay‘s label and I used to go to Jam Master Jay’s studio and see him all the time. He used to be like, ‘Yo Rule, let’s put a record together. Let’s do a record together.’ It just never manifested. We were in each other’s comforts. It’s real crazy. I don’t think we have anything to say to each other except good luck to you. I’ve come a long way, Ness, if you had asked me these questions three or four years ago, I might have said I hope that n*gga dies.” (Hot 97)
