With the Grammy Awards a few short months away, SOHH decided to chat with a few past award winners to see how much stock they place in receiving music's highest honor.

Rapper Krayzie Bone says the biggest award in his mind will always be the love he receives from true fans.

“The stuff I like to here is when people come up to us and be like, “Man, your music literally saved my life.” I’ve had people come up to me and tell me they were thinking about committing suicide, but they listened to my music and decided not to. [Grammy] Awards are cool but the fans are the real reason why I do it.” (SOHH)

The two-time Grammy Award winner added that the love for Bone Thugs N Harmony extends far beyond U.S. borders.

“We just did a show out in the UK. Everybody that came up to us was like, “Y’all music changed my life.” Being acknowledged of for your achievements is all cool but I’m all about the music.” (SOHH)

Five-time Grammy nominated Reggae artist Shaggy told SOHH that for a long time, he was upset that his diamond-selling 2000 album Hot Shot was snubbed for a Grammy nomination.

“For a long time I was sore about what happened with Hot Shot, which was the biggest record of that year. We didn’t get nominated for Best Reggae album or any other Grammy that year. We were totally snubbed by them. But then I went over and found out there are a lot of things that need to be done on the part of the artist where voting is concerned. So a lot of people that got nominated are people that are very proactive on their part.” (SOHH)

Shaggy said that there is more to winning music’s most coveted award than simply dropping a popular song. Shaggy is up for Reggae Album of the Year in this year’s ceremony.

“I think people not only in the Reggae genre but in the music industry as a whole, I took the initiative of actually going down to the Grammy Association and educating myself on how the process works. It’s voted on by a lot of people, but if you don’t have representation or you’re not active in it you won’t know what’s going on.” (SOHH)

Cee-Lo admitted in a past interview that not only was he surprised his smash hit “F*ck You” was nominated for a 2011 Grammy, but wasn’t even sure why it was nominated for both Record and Song of the Year.

“And I’ll be honest, I don’t even know the difference between the two,” Cee-Lo explained in an interview. “But I was really surprised by the whole thing. I didn’t even know the song could be considered. The song was only out for a short while [before it got nominated] but I guess it performed well enough for it to be considered. I guess I was just surprised anyone noticed.” (VIBE)

In February, Royce Da 5’9 shared a conversation he had with Eminem about Shady’s ten Grammy nominations at the 2011 awards.

“It’s funny, I just had the conversation with him about it,” Royce said in an interview referring to the upcoming Grammy Awards . “He doesn’t think he’s gonna win anything. He wouldn’t bet me, though. But I think he honestly thinks he’s not gonna win. Which I think is ridiculous — I think he’s gonna win. We’re rooting for him.” (MTV)
