According to Cannon, Cory has the ability to become a music icon.

“I definitely think he can [be the next Young Money superstar],” Cannon declared in an interview. “I think he can be bigger than Drake and Nicki Minaj. I’m a huge fan of both of those acts, but Cory comes from a different place. He’s a street dude and he’s been living hip-hop all his life and the industry’s been buzzing about him for years. Jay-Z signed him when he was 17, so just the respect and the potential that everybody recognizes–and he holds the Bronx down like no other and that’s the birthplace of hip-hop–so I think we can see a lot of things from this cat.” (Rap-Up)

Last month, Cory credited Lil Wayne for teaching him about maintaining success.

“All of his performances, whether it’s a video or a live performance, his energy is always the same: It’s always up,” Gunz said in an interview referring to Lil Wayne. “If there’s anything that I learned from him, it’s definitely to put your heart in it. Regardless if you’re writing a verse for somebody else’s album, write it like it’s for yours.” (MTV)

This week, Gunz’s new “Son of a Gun” MTV reality series premiered.

The six-episode series will cover the attempts to make a star out of a baby-faced young New York rapper named Cory Gunz, who is saddled with an unending parade of managers, producers and hangers-on, each seemingly determined to get credit and a piece of the action. They mostly succeed in getting in one another’s way. (Media Life Magazine)

Prior to signing with Young Money last year, Gunz recently revealed a past interest to hook-up with Eminem’s Shady Records.

“I always had great admiration for Eminem, and growing up, any of my close friends knew that if I had a choice when I was younger I would always say that I would sign to Shady or Aftermath,” Cory explained in an interview. “At the end of the day, I really didn’t get a chance to get in front of Em and really let him hear any music or anything like that. But everything happens for a reason. I’m blessed to be here by choice of God. Honestly, I’m playing for one of the biggest teams. I’m like Lebron [James] right now and the Heat.” (BET)
