“I Learned To Count My Bars From Jadakiss”

[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time. To make things tricky, we’ve created a “Hall of Fame” of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned. After Mums spit out his fave five last week, Memphis rapper Don Trip lays out his quick picks.]

  • JadakissJadakiss. I’ve got to throw Jada in there. He’s in my Top 5 because no matter what, he keeps it genuine. He’s one of the people that managed to keep on having a career after B.I.G. passed. He managed to stand on his fan. I’m a LOX fan but I’m a super Jada fan. He inspired me the most. I learned a lot of my bars from him. I learned how to count my bars from him.

  • don-trip.jpgDon Trip. I guess I have to put me in there. I’m influenced by the Hall of Fame. I just think there’s a lot of things about me other than the typical rhyming and words. They’re going to see. I bring a lot more to the table. I hate to toot my own horn.

  • Andre 3000Andre 3000. Of course. I’m not sure if he’s in the Hall of Fame, but I have to name him. I think I have to put him in there with the Hall of Fame. I’m a huge Andre 3000 fan. I like OutKast but I’m a big fan of Andre.

  • shawn-j.jpgShawn J. I’ve got to name Shawn J from Field Mob because I think he’s got spit game on him that a lot of people don’t even recognize. Shawn can actually spit but won’t do the typical rapper records. He do what he do when he actually spits. It’s there but not a lot of people really try to check for Shawn J.

  • starlito.jpgStarlito. I’ll give the last spot to Starlito. He’s one of those people that inspires me from working hands on. You expect every artist to be arrogant and lazy but when I sat with him, I saw it’s a lot of art in what he do. There’s a lot of art.
