New York rapper DMX claims to have fully removed himself from any urges for cocaine usage and said his drug addictions are now a thing of the past.
According to X, he feels cleansed and ready to guide his family in the right direction.
DMX tells TMZ, he has finally kicked the drug addictions that kept him behind bars for years — and he has his children to thank. X tells us, coke was his greatest demon after his latest prison release in July — “Everyone was taking advantage of me with my finances, trying to put me in thedirection to fail. I have 10 kids. I have to drive them in the right direction, so I let the cocaine go.” The rapper — real name Earl Simmons — says God also helped him through … telling us, “I am on a spiritual road to do right in my life. I am leaving out all negativity and going to stay on the right road to positive.” (TMZ)
Despite past stints behind bars on drug charges, X appeared on “106 & Park” this week and said he did not regret his mistakes.
“I wouldn’t change one thing,” he told hosts Rocsi and Terrence. “That made me the man I am today and I love the way I am.” When asked what he thought of today’s popular rappers, he responded, “I really don’t think about other rappers, no disrespect. I’d rather focus on what I am seeing, the message I need to get across.” On “Last Hope,” X rhymes over a beat which was previously used by Drake. “I didn’t know it was his song,” said X. “I heard the beat, the hook. I’m like, ‘I gotta beast on that.’ Thanks for bringing it to the table, I guess.” (Rap-Up)
Over the summer, Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav detailed conquering his past drug addiction.
“I [was] a drug addict for 18 years; only six years clean. The worst mistake I ever made was experimenting with drugs. I was always more of a follower instead of a leader. Being around the hood, you’re following, you always wanna have a big name for yourself and you don’t wanna be no punk. Whatever my friendswere doing I chose to do. It was the worst experiment that I could do in my life, but would I change it to this day? No. The reason why is because I got to learn about addiction. I got to live through all of that, so that way I could be able to teach about it and hopefully people learn how I made my mistakes and they [don’t] make the same mistakes that I made.” (XXL Mag)
In summer 2010, G.O.O.D. Music rapper Kid Cudi revealed he defeated a cocaine craving.
“No more blow. People do drugs to camouflage emotions and run away from their problems. Now I’m going to deal with certain things as they come, prioritize sh*t–man up, so to speak. Just for the record, it bugged me out that people said it was liquid cocaine [that I got arrested for over the summer]. No, I’m just f*cking rich, and my blow comes in a jar. There was no liquid in it–that sh*t makes no sense.” (Complex)
