In Porter’s perspective, the acknowledgement of a DJ Drama-free mixtape sparked attention and got people interested in the mixtape.

“It was dope and that was actually the call I got,” Porter told SOHH when asked why he decided to put “Not Hosted By DJ Drama” on his mixtape cover. “It was like, ‘Yo, we should do it like this, we’ll get the message out there, it’ll be fun to promote and it’ll send that message out there especially with the music. That’s good. It’ll also highlight the music.’ People are going to focus on DJ Drama and say, ‘Hey, what’s up with this? What do you mean by ‘Not Hosted’?’ And then they check it out and they’re like, ‘Oh, snap.’ I consider it a co-sign but it’s from a different angle. He’s the one telling you just to make the music speak and I’m making it speak. So that’s what Porter’s Pot basically does. He’s the one telling you let it speak and I’m the one making it speak.” (SOHH)

He also shared some insight on the various reactions he got from the marketing scheme.

“I heard all of that [with people thinking there might be a beef with Drama]. Even before the project dropped, people were asking, ‘Yo, what’s up? What’s going on?’ I was even getting calls like, ‘Yo, what’s up with you and Drama?’ I had to tell everyone I’m just working on something. Another thing I got from that is I also got a song called ‘Kanye West’ people thought I was just being that a**hole kid doing some a**hole sh*t by having it as ‘Not Hosted By Drama’ so I was getting all types of reactions with the ‘Not Hosted By DJ Drama’ situation. And I think that’s what we were aiming for.” (SOHH)

Joining in on the fun, Drama joked about his absence from the tape last week.

“RT @DatPiff: [Mixtape] @DenzilPorter – Porter’s Pot (NOT hosted by me…. smh) http://www.datpiff.com/pop-mixtape-download.php?id=md39edc1 …,” Drama tweeted December 21st. (DJ Drama’s Twitter)

The 19-track mixtape landed across the Internet on December 21st.

Bronx, NY native Denzil Porter is giving you other rising MC’s some inspiration to work harder with his new mixtape, Porter’s Pot. The 19-track tape is feature-free, and that’s just fine, cause he kills each one on his own. The beats vary from hard-hitting to slow and smooth, with some soulful samples and a few old-school hip-hop feels thrown in the mix. Denzil exhibits a wide array of flows over them all, with real lyrics that clearly took some thought and time to write, exciting wordplay, and catchy hooks. If you’re looking for a new artist to add to your playlist, look no further. Mr. Porter has what it takes to go far in this business. (The Source)
