[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name their Top 5 rappers of all-time. To make things tricky, we've created a "Hall of Fame" of emcees (see right) who are universally respected and therefore may not be mentioned. After Misty Beck dished out her fave five last week, rapper Notar reveals his top picks.]
-
Black Thought. I don’t know how the f*ck he didn’t make the Hall of Fame. He revolutionized the live band in hip-hop, not to mention he’s a lyrical demon.
-
Ghostface Killah. Not only is he a brilliant man, he’s so descriptive, so artistic. It just seeps out of his skin. He’s so unbelievable. He speaks his mind and I love that.
-
GZA. Honestly, Liquid Swords? I remember seeing him perform in New York and his hype man was his 11 year-old son. I almost teared up watching that. He’s so f*cking smart, that’s probably why he’s not in the Hall of Fame. He’s almost too smart.
-
Redman. He’s not only lyrical and a gem, but he mixes his sense of humor to the rawness. It makes you trip when you listen to him.
-
Method Man. To me, he’s the definition of a word that I don’t use that’s very popular which begins with an “s” and ends with a “g.” He’s so styllistic. He is what hip-hop is. If you look at Mef, he is that. Method Man’s in my list.
